04:26 Trivia: the M1 Carbine got replaced by the M16 because the new ammunition was much more effective in defiance of the smaller caliber. The smaller projectile became more effective because the propellant almost stood the same which resulted in higher velocity and that caused more damage in soft tissue, but on cost of less penetration of protective gear and less effectiveness on longer ranges. That's why snipers use ammunition in higher calibres with more weight and more propellant - on longer (up to almost 3900 yards) ranges, these projectiles deliver more energy into the target than rifles or pistols that were built to act in shorter (usually 0-100 yards) ranges. In WWII the M1 Carbine was the perfect middle course between firepower and maneuverability. The soldiers were able to carry more ammunition and therefor had better chances to hit the target although the .30 Carbine projectiles of the M1 Carbine were less effective than the .30-06 of the M1 Garand - a "weak" projectile that hits a target is more effective than a "much stronger" projectile that misses the target. And: the M1 Carbine had magazines with 15-30 rounds instead of the 8 round clips of the M1 Garand - faster reloading with more ammo. So most of the Wehrmacht had the K98k - a bolt action rifle with 5 rounds and they were confronted commonly with 3 different types of rifles from which 2 were more effective: the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine. The lesser effective rifle was the M1903 A3 (it had almost similar sights to the Garand, so it was easier to use for soldiers who learned with the Garand but also had only 5 rounds like the K98k) which was also given to U.S. soldiers in lack of Garands (war-related shortage). Second trivia: the commonly heard story of the "PING" of the M1 Garand clip (look into Google for a ton of silly stories that are completely not true) is a myth. In the heat of a battle, it is technically impossible to hear that particular "PING" and shoot back in hope of that the U.S. soldier is out of ammo/reloading. Imagine wearing headphones with very loud music whilst doing something that affords all of your attention - would you hear someone dropping their keychain 50 yards away? That's right: you would not. Well, I annoyed you long enough with dry data, so: have a good time :)

Hi Guys. Great video as always. I was thinking the covered holes in the forest you found may have been machine gun positions. The groove running around the inner part of the concrete could have held a steel ring to allow the gun to be swung around like the gun turrets on a bomber, while the soldier was protected in the hole. I think the cover is post war to stop people falling in by accident.

I think one thing that really should be noted that this can be very dangerous. While many areas of old battles are open to the public if you are specifically searching like this you MAY come across munitions used in those battles, unexploded bombs and grenades - And this happens. In England new building works still discover bombs dropped from WW2. There are divers too lakes and rivers that find bombs and such. So if you think about doing this you should be careful and if you do find weapons or anything that could be dangerous - you should instantly call the police. Maybe a warning on the description should always be included just as a safety notice for people would be handy.

I love your videos! Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to travel to Germany and many other major WW2 battle areas. One question though, why can’t you take live rounds back? Aren’t those relics too?
@_hxrryyy67943 жыл бұрын
Same 😁
@frederickhamilton37422 жыл бұрын
The reason you can't take live rounds back is because they are live rounds. Because of age, the primers of these cartridges are no longer working, however, the cartridges still contain gunpowder. This makes these old relics, hazardous materials or dangerous goods, for transportation and shipping purposes.
