Hello everyone once more! This was like a new video to me too since it's been several months :D It also took me almost that long to write this, buckle up buckaroo it's a long one. I've been listening to them since and my stance is still the same, I really like them! Not that I've been diving too deep into their discography but can't get any worse, right? ;) Set the World On Fire is and will stay on my main playlist. Feel free to recommend more (I see some suggestions in the comments, gonna check those out too thanks!) Saying that it kinda reminds me of an anime intro is of course wildly western-y and to an extent ignorant of me and I was hesitant to say it in the moment, I get that :D They are not the first Japanese metal or rock band I've heard, I frequented Dir en Grey, D'espairsRay, The Gazzette and Maximum the Hormone to name a few (last one probably being the influence for the anime intro since they were one of the Death Note openings). But that actually brings up another fun point that I realised! It's a really fun juxtaposition in both of these songs to have pretty classic Japanese vocal sound versus more traditionally western sounding music. It sounds different and good to my ear and I like it a lot. Forgive me for not knowing/remembering the names, the singer has a really powerful voice. They're all really good musicians, objectively. I mean it's obvious to anyone. The stamina needed for those show is incredible and not only that you can last that long (no dirty jokes here) but also to keep the package together, package meaning tempo and rhythm in this case. Mindblowing. Especially for the drummer although as a bass and guitar main I am biased but it's super hard on your physique to play like that for extended periods of time. They play live better than I have ever played on record (and it has multiple takes!!) What's also very refreshing is to see variety in the songs and subgenres. I couldn't quite get it out in the moment but someone in the comments helped and spelled it out, Holy War is speed metal with some other bits and Set the World On Fire is more thrash metal-y with a powerful chorus. And I've read in the comments that they have many more subgenres floating about, too! Not that there's anything wrong in sticking with one of course. Gotta give props for the star shaped cymbals :D They serve no audible function it seems but man they look great haha! Wondering if they are old smashed up cymbals cut up because oh boy they absolutely will crack and split even though you're just hitting them with little (usually) wooden sticks. I remember how we cut around the starts of the cracks before they got too bad and the cymbals always ended up looking like Millenium Falcon :D There's so many more little gear related things that made me happy but I won't go too deep into that here as probably doesn't mean anything to anyone else! Being on stage is a totally different world. I definitely transform into totally different energy-leveled being! Haven't been on a proper stage in years but I still claim being on stage playing live music as one of my ultimate happy places. There really is a point where nothing can stop you and it's just you and the music. I remember so distinctly still, although it's been like 10 years now, when we were playing a gig in St Petersburg in a punk bar (one of the coolest, weirdest and grotesque bars I've ever been to, Stoker it was called) and we were nearing the end of the set so we're like 40mins in. The stage is the smallest I've ever stood on, in all directions, so the colored flashing and so so hot lights were right on my head and face. We're thrashing away like mad hell and it's like sauna in there. So much so, that I eventually go from dripping sweat to running sweat. I can feel myself dehydrating in the moment and my brow can't stop it anymore and all of it flows right into my eyes. I can't see anything and it burns so bad but man we got a song to finish. So you just push through and you make it. Personally one of the greatest live moments. One last thing I didn't realise to mention in the moment. My boi here said that live hiphop sounds like garbo (more or less, right :D) but I would argue that while most likely true, that type of music is mostly about the groove and vibes rather than technicality and playing exactly like it's on the record. Hell, there's usually quite a lot of freestyling too isn't there? Anyway, my god I'm awkward on video :DD Thank you guys for being so nice and welcoming! Will definitely be back should the need arise (who's to say... ;D) Sorry for the long comment and extra thank you if you read it all! Hi mum!

Nice. thanks for the insight into who you are, your musical experience was fun to read. For one of their most uplifting songs, amazing drumming, as usual. More dual guitars with a surprise along the way... "Rising": kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ_GmmuBqb19hs0 Because the [cc] lyrics were added accurately (not auto-generated from voice) they ought to auto-translate correctly, if you want. Lovebites have a connection to Finland! Their sound mix and mastering is by Finns Mikko Kamila and Mika Jussila, who have done similar work for Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Stratovarius. The bass player Miho actually left the band entirely back in August of last year. They are currently auditioning new bassists. The open auditions are now over, and they are trimming down the list of applicants. They are planning to announce the new bassist in August of this year.

The connection to Japan is perhaps even stronger. I think Japan has a taste for western rock and metal music in general, but it seems to me that there is some friendship between Finland and Japan. Hobknoblin mentioned Sonata Arctica - that Finnish band toured Japan repeatedly and they have two live recordings from Tokyo out of three live albums they made. Even fairly underrated band Tacere had big commercial success in Japan with Beautiful Darkness.

But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for Only have one thing on our mind Facing the fate, holy war Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty We are the metal warriors Fighting the darkness for brothers Shining blade and burning heart Into the Gates of Hell we march Immortal soul, let there be light Into the Eye of Heaven Eagles at a holy war Fly higher than the sun We are one for all and all for one forevermore What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight? Miyako and Midori are two guitarists with the same skill level but with different tones and tastes where Midori prefers to play a lot of scales, sweeping, tremolo and tends to play fast while Miyako prefers Slide, Bending, Tapping and playing with soul. But when the two of them are faced with playing Harmony, this is where we can see the similarity in their skill levels. They can play it at a fast tempo without the slightest mistake. You can't play Harmony fast and precise if you don't have the same ability and speed, and they play harmony in all songs. They are both so amazing.

I made a comment where this was one of the points, see that for more but long story short: probably not. I have previous experience of Japanese metal music so I'm not totally new to the scene but it's the Japanese lyrics mostly that made me think that, there's many other bands that have been used as openings like from my repertoire Maximum the Hormone's What's Up, People! was used in Death Note. Thought train connecting the dots wildly.

@@thehobknoblin Thank you for your response. I think most people familiar with JRock bands know that some also write and perform songs for anime franchises to supplement their income (musicians never know when their next gig will be.). It’s interesting that you stated that the Japanese lyrics made you think of the anime connection. What part of the lyrics reminded you of anime because Lovebites is one of the few JRock bands that sing their songs exclusively in English? I suggest you react to new music with your ears and an open mind.

@@elesiobuccat3951 Oh absolutely, it must be good money but only that it's also good exposure. I'm very open minded when it comes to music, I have favourites in every genre. What I did not realise weirdly enough after all the repeated playbacks that it is, indeed, all English lol! Choruses I of course noticed because that's not uncommon. But to my defense, I have some level of auditory processing issues, especially when it's not in my native language (as you know I'm not Japanese nor am I English speaker natively). Guess it just leaves the sound and performance then! Because it still is distinctly Jrock and -metal sounding no matter the language, isn't it? Fascinating stuff really.
