“It’s supposed to be fun turning 21” is real, he really didn’t show up to her 21st birthday when he said he’d be there, she wrote a song about it called “The Moment I Knew” and she also wrote a mega-hit called “22” which many speculate/ believe to be a result of how shitty she felt on her 21st birthday-day when he didn’t show up 🫶

Pondering over where I was wrong, how did I let this fall apart?! & then this song came on the radio as I was driving. I bawled my eyes out - complicated tears. Long story short, I realized that I had been tolerating his mistreatment for a long time. & I felt a freedom that hadn't been there in a long time. music heals

Picture this Taylor is in the studio with her band. They were rehearsing for the Speak Now tour, I believe, but she was kind of struggling. She started playing her guitar and started singing these thoughts . Her band started following her. Her sound guy had started recording when he saw her pick up her guitar because you never know, so you don’t miss the opportunities. She basically started singing these lines and paragraphs trying to purge the guy. The original version was well over 15 minutes long. When she stopped, her mom turned to the sound guy and said please tell me you got all that!! He did and printed her a CD Of course, you can’t put a 10 minute song on your album (her record company still had control and lots of opinions). She ended up working with Liz Rose to help her wrangle this song down to 5+ minutes. When you look at Red (Taylor’s Version) because nothing says oh, you won’t sell me back my first 5 albums even though I could buy my catalog with cash, I made them once, I’ll make them again and I’ll own them and that catalog won’t be so valuable FU to Scooter Braun, she had no problem putting the original version as Track 5, but putting the 10 minute version as the piece de resistance last song. Taylor puts her most heartfelt, devastating, vulnerable, personal songs into Track 5. At some point after the Red album was released, All too Well became a Swiftie favorite even though it wasn’t released as a single. Taylor was giving an interview and mentioned All too Well was originally a 10 minute song, the fans would not let it go and kept asking when she was going to give them the 10 minute version. When Taylor started reworking Red, she and Liz Rose got back together to rework this song back into its original glory. Taylor had written a song called Better Man that she had planned for Track 5 originally, but selected All to well instead, so she sent Better Man over to Little Big Town as she knew their harmonies would do to justice to the song. It was a hit for them. Taylor recorded it from the vault for Red Taylor’s Version. Her current contract with Universal gives her complete control and ownership over her work and releases. They just ask for time for them to get everything cleaned and ready and printed. Since Taylor always has a plan and she had been directing more of her videos, she decided to make a short film with All too Well as the overlay to the film story. Everything got released closed to all together. SNL even had her as musical guest and had her do this 10 minute version on the live show which is rather unusual to say the least! Red TV is an amazing album. It’s my hubby’s favorite, so it’s been on repeat. I recommend you check it out when you get a chance. My hubby is a new Swiftie, too! Don’t listen to Ronan without tissue. Your review and analysis were really good.

Not only did she write this masterpiece, but she wrote it in one sitting. She came into rehearsal and was really emotional and got on the piano and sang this 10 minute song start to finish. Afterwards everyone was shocked and they looked at Taylor’s mom and said “please tell me someone recorded that” lol such an icon. The first version she released of this song came out when I was 18 and going through my first heartbreak. I would listen to this in the car everyday and cry on my way to college lol.. now I’m 30 and it sometimes still gets me and I cry at some parts. Since i couldnt find any comments about the context of the song, here it is: The Song is not just about any toxic relationship, but the one with Jake Gyllenhaal. This man is 9 years older than her and always refered to her like she was just a kid, didnt take her problems in the relationship serious and so on. She has a lot of songs about him with great lines like "give me my childhood back, it was mine first" and often refers to him in a way, that its weird how her age was always a problem for him but that he always gets new GFs in her age. Knowing that, the "its supposed to be fun turning 21" line kicks even harder... bc he promised to be there, and let her down (keep in mind, he was 30 at that time).
@penguin_evere7 ай бұрын
would’ve could’ve should’ve is about john mayer? the girlhood line is a reference to how she has said she feels her relationship with john was the end of her childhood, from how different she was afterwards. i heard something about it being written after the grammys in 2021 where apparently he was. plus, she dated jake when she was 20, but john when she was 19, and she specifically mentions being 19 in wcs. so, just to correct that small detail 👍

Where to begin, I have a lot of recommendations for you…. -Folklore Long pond Studio Sessions (Disney+) - she wrote Folklore during Covid, and then her producers + her got together and did an acoustic run through of the songs and talk about what each song means… it’s the bare bones versions of the song and its raw and chef’s kiss. If you like deep lyrics, Folklore & Evermore (and TTPD) are great for that (honestly all her albums but these are standout) -Midnights album has a lot of synth and 80’s vibes.. you should react to the Antihero music video, the song Midnight Rain or the full era from the Eras Tour. The album is about the things that keep you up at midnight.. -the song Exhile with Bon Iver from Folklore, when their voices combine… 🔥 (this is in the long pond studio sessions too) -Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve from Midnights and Dear John from Speak Now are both about John Mayer (DJ was written first, then WCS was written years later but it shows how that relationship still haunts her) it’s absolutely devastating -thanK you aIMee from TTPD lyric video, this song is about Kim Kardashians, and the hell she put Taylor through (prior to Reputation album)

I’ve been loving Taylor for many years now, but the song that sent me from casual fan to Swiftie was the original shorter version of “All Too Well” from her Red album. I heard it for the first time a little late in the game, probably around 2013 when 1989 was released. It made me stop and think “whoa, what other hidden gems can I find in her albums?” It’s been my favorite song, and my favorite song to have a therapeutic cry to, ever since. I love getting the chance to see someone else’s first time hearing it. Such a relatable song with simple yet meaningful lyrics. It’s a gut punch for sure. You should listen to “Death By A Thousand Cuts.” There’s a line about traffic lights that is so beautifully simple that it reminds me of the refrigerator light line of this song. She really does a good job of painting an image in the mind. I’m so glad I found your account! Thanks for giving something new a listen in good faith and not just to hate.

Pleaseeee do eat me by Demi lovato!! I have a feeling you will really like her, she was a Disney child star turned popstar who put out a really good rock album called holy fvck in 2022. Eat me has a live vevo performance. And if u have never heard Demi sing before … prepare yourself haha that woman can belttttt her ass off. She even came out with a cover of papa was a rolling stone today on slash’s new project and it’s amazingggggg

Loving the Taylor reactions, but if you want something different, I'd suggest Too Sweet by Hozier. That song has done the rounds on tiktok/reels/shorts etc. and I think it 's a shame that most people only know the 5 most popular seconds of it. Hozier is a brilliant writer with an INSANE voice and Too Sweet is one of the best produced songs I've heard in a while. There's something about it that is really satisfying.
