A perfect D6 note. Floor Jansen is a rock singer but has classical study. She started it because of Henk Poort. She watched him in the "Phantom of the Opera" ( he had the part of the Phantom himself) and she was saying to herself "I want to do that and sing like him." She became the Floor she is today by studying and practicing inspired by Henk, she adores him.

A good singer is characterized by the following: 1. Vocal control (aka, staying ‘on pitch’ and easily accessing all the notes in his/her range) - Floor gets 10/10 2. Strong support and proper breathing technique - Floor gets 10/10 3. Good tone (a voice that is aesthetically pleasing) - Floor gets 10/10 4. Clear enunciation - Floor gets 10/10 5. Suitable volume - Floor gets 10/10 6 Consistency in performance - Floor gets 10/10 7. Musical phrasing (expressiveness) - Floor gets 10/10 8 Having a voice that suits the style of the music - Floor gets 10/10 9. Versatility - Floor gets 10/10 P.S. At least for me, the volume for the song was way too low.

Great reaction and review. Floor who wasn't that well know in her homeland, stormed this TV show week in and week out and has conquered her homeland now. How much fun did they have doing this duet? Floor gets to sing with one of her idols, Henk and he gets to even do distortion and have a blast with Floor. I love the Sarah Brightman version but man, this sounded as if it was the perfect version Webber had in mind when he wrote the piece. All the pros stood and clapped at the end so that tells you all you need to know what they thought of the number. The band and other singer on this show were great and the show will be truly missed by many of the fans who came to watch Floor but were really blown away with the entire production.

*When, where & who* : episode was recorded on a rainy April day 2019, outdoors at resort Atzaró on Ibiza Island. De BesteZangers season #12 hosted by Jan Smit. Not only Jansen & Poort sang live, also the *MF Band* displayed their musical skills live! So, also credits to the *MF Band* with: Marcel Fisser (bandleader & lead guitar)- Gregor Hamilton (synthesizer /keyboards) - Marijn van den Berg (drums) - Serge Bredewold ( *bass* guitar) - Martijn de Laat (trumpet) - Arno Slijper (piano / keyboards) ) - Edwin de Groot (guitar / backing vocals) - Lesley van der Aa (backing vocals) and multi-instrumentalist Hubert Heeringa (the headscarfed saxofonist, violinist, etc). A FTV Production. Info on the show: “Every one of those people on the couches were other Dutch vocalists. They took turns each week essentially serenading one of the other artists. They each would take songs from the catalog of the singer "on the couch" or that influenced them somewhere in their life and they would perform it with their own spin. Floor being from Nightwish, After Forever, Revamp, Ayreon, Star One, etc did amazing jobs. The week she was on the couch it is worth noting that ONLY the guy (Tim) on the couch referred to as the "Ramone's t-shirt guy" flipping his hair did a Nightwish song (his remake of Nemo). Though Henk Poort did Disturbed's version of "The Sound of Silence" in that episode. This performance here is from duets for the last episode (season #12). It is also interesting that Floor is in what is with no contest the largest act any Netherlands born vocalist is in, but she was virtually unknown to the people of the Netherlands. Until this show. Nightwish is from Finland and they are the most popular act from that country and they get a lot of regular radio play. Nightwish is the popular music for Finnish people. :) Yet until now Floor was lesser known to the Dutch people. No more. There are a ton of reactions to this and pretty much everything she DID (and the other singers)...”

Floor is a big fan of Henk. She looks Up to him. Henk is a big star too. The interaction between them is great. Henk had one condition when Floor asked him for this duet. He wanted to perform this song with her together with Nightwish and that was agreed. I was disappointed that you broke of the song in the middel of the last note (D6 kept for 8 secondes).

7:42: It is a high E6. But this is the Nightwish version Tarja and Marco sang, which is pitched a note lower. But a D6 is still impressive. And I am pretty sure that Floor would even get the E6 or the F6 which is necessary for the Queen of the Night.

*FLOOR* - origin and meaning: ( Dutch born Jansen) her firstname *Floor* comes from the Latin word "florens". That means "flourishing, charming, respectable." The name is derived from Florentius. The name is also used as an abbreviation for Flora. Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers and spring. She was the symbol of nature. That is why the plant world is still called "flora" in Dutch. She was also one of the goddesses of fertility. In English the word "floor" also occurs independently. It means "floor, ground." Because of this everyday meaning, Floor is usually not used as a given name in English-speaking areas.

Huh? Gaston? Henk was the first dutch Phantom, and a great success at that. He also is a great Bariton, and performs throughout Europe with the "three baritons" show, much like the three tenors do. Thatś why Floor wanted to do the Phantom with him, cause heś an original phantom.

That was a D6 which Is a little different than the usual note but she can definitely hit whatever she wants
@janklas70795 жыл бұрын
The high note is a D6 and Floor can sing that note thousands of times without vocal damage. Floor HAS a natural high voice, she is a soprano. It's all about technique, if you drag up the note and power it, you'll damage your vocal chords. But if you have a good basis, good support, and have very good technique, you can pull a note like this off, like floor does. This is not Floor in her full operatic mode. This is why Floor is such a Godess, she can basically seamlesly shift between voice types, colors, thickness and styles. Here you can see her go full opera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5a3qnSQqbtoras As you can hear, a thinner even more operatic sound.

Weber actually wrote that last note as a F6, but even Sarah Brightman couldn't hit that note consistently for every performance -- be he wrote the full chord alternatives so both the D6 and the B below that are "acceptable". (though honestly I think the B sounds horrible) I saw an interview with him in the '90's where it came up, and he said he'd prefer the vocalist sings a note they can actually hit solid, with confidence, all day, every day, every performance, than something he wrote that's "pie in the sky" territory... as the majority of the audience won't know the difference, and if they have to "strain" to hit the note, it's going to sound strained and -- as you mentioned -- damage their vocal chords. Simply put -- and paraphrasing here -- the performance is more important that what the composer wrote. Interesting words coming from a composer. A D6 is the upper limit for a lot of vocalists, I can't think of many who spend much time at or above that... Lisa Kelly from Celtic Woman and... uhm, well there's Lisa Kelly. Listen to her sing "the Voice" to see what I mean. That's pure "head voice" though and she doesn't bring anywhere near the "power" to the table. Susan McFadden also performs that one and whilst she brings more power, her tone is just... off.
@Nikioko4 жыл бұрын
Are you sure that it is a F6? Mozart wrote a F6 for the Queen of the Night and that is considered the most challenging soprano aria. And according to Wikipedia, it is a E6: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_of_the_Opera_(Andrew_Lloyd_Webber_song)

Greetings. I know this comment comes a year late, but I didn't see any that share the information I have for you..... Floor Jansen attended the Dutch Rock Academy for 4 years in 1999 and on the last year enrolled herself in the Coservatoruim Tilburg. She graduated from the Rock Academy with enough points to extend her stay in Tilburg for one more year. After Tilburg, she studied one year of opera and one year of musical theater. Floor also prides herself in being a vocal "nerd" as she studied the anatomy of the human vocal mechanism in pristine detail. From the breath control in the diaphragm and rib muscles, to the resonating tones created by the shape of your skull and absolutely EVERYTHING in between. The highest note achieved thus far, by Floor Jansen, is in the live performance of "Romanticide" at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany 2013. There, she slides an F3 three octaves up to an F6 with a smile on her face. And the D6 performed here? Well, she held it for 8 seconds and after knowing all the things that she had obviously learned about her voice mechanism and how to use it, safe to say she had soooooo much more left in her tank, (comfortably) in respect to range and breath control. Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤🤘🤘

Thank you for sharing this! It's obvious in her performance that she's really knowledgeable (and even more so now that she started doing vocal academy videos), but this is another level of detail. It's just awesome to see how happy she is while singing, it makes for an entirely different performace.

The biggest growling vocals I know of that Floor has done was in Nightwish's song Yours Is An Empty Hope (I could easily be wrong about this! If so, corrections are welcome but please keep it civil). BEFORE listening to that song however, it's probably a good idea to get used to Marco's vocals so that you can hear the difference between them. While Floor is growling, Marco is singing clean vocals. Depending on the recording you watch, it might be difficult picking the sounds apart separately. But, they sing simultaneously for a reason. :)
