Props to them for listening and changing the product a lil bit, but I think the Thief showcase illustrated it was a bit of a lazy fix. The darks in the new version of thief look so awful. It feels like they literally just turned up the brightness or removed all the saturation. Idk, seems like $190 you could’ve put towards a retrotink 4K😂
@turismofoegaming8806 Жыл бұрын
I felt like this too? I felt like the darkness in the original footage for thieves actually looked more realistic for how dark it would really look? The updated version just looks like they turned up the brightness?! Which better in terms of you can see more, but it looks worse as far as you don’t have those inky blacks no more ..

I bought the Pound HDMI Link for my PAL OG Xbox here in the UK. Was really disappointed with it as it suffered interference lines on screen. I then bought the Xbox2HDMI and it is amazing, by far the best solution. Outrun 2 & 2006 C2C running through the Xbox2HDMI then into my mClassic looks amazing on a 50" 4K LED TV. Thoroughly recommend the Xbox2HDMI and the mClassic too!

I run my Switch, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U at 720p (I figure better frame rate at 720p if the game is 1080p capable), my OG Xbox at 480p (soft mod setting), my PS2, Gamecube, Mega Drive (Genesis) and SNES through a RetroTINK SCART all with RGB cables, and then switch the whole lot through the mClassic to a Sony 4K TV, it works great. The only thing not running through the mClassic is the PS5 as its connected to a 1440p gaming monitor. I just bought a Dreamcast so I have to figure out the best way to connect that up too. A big thank you MetalJesus for your videos, they kept me entertained though covid and really helped me build my own gaming setup. @@MetalJesusRocks

Is the Picture really that good although an unmodded PAL Xbox displays only 480i/60fps?
@fishydelishy Жыл бұрын
@@JAGtheTrekkieGEMINI1701 Yes, the image is excellent and I think the Xbox2HDMI is the best device. As you say, an unmodded PAL Xbox will output 480i. The Xbox2HDMI won’t upscale or convert anything so will provide an excellent 480i over HDMI signal. You have to be sure your TV can handle 480i over HDMI, some TVs can’t do it. The mClassic only upscales progressive scan signals, hence why I soft modded the Xbox to output 480p and use the RetroTINK 2X SCART to convert the other devices to 480p/576p. The mClassic then upscales to 1080p. If your TV supports 480i over HDMI then I’d go for the Xbox2HDMI over anything else.

I can see what EON was trying to accomplish here but you're absolutely correct in saying that, despite all of its functionality and its improved video signal handling, it is still WAY too expensive. The extra functionality it packs can all be bought cheaper by going with separate devices. Want two or more HDMI outputs for this thing? Get a good quality HDMI Splitter or even a small Matrix Switcher which will cost $20-$40 max. Want to be a masochist like me and hook a bunch of Xbox machines together via LAN for System Link? Some CAT 5 cables for a few bucks and a simple 5-port Ethernet switch for under $20 or an old used router. Any of those will get the job done no problem. Even if you wanted ALL of these features at once and combined it with the Xbox2HDMI or even a Xedusa+ for the occasional Xbox power user, the combined total for all of those devices would STILL be less than EON's machine. The price for this thing has only one reason behind it: EON is used to charging $150+ for all of their products ever since they made the GameCube adapters and hoped that it would stick with the N64 and Xbox adapters. Spoiler alert: it doesn't...

In my experience setting up the color and brightness for tvs, crt tvs mainly but flat screens as well, the end result is always darker than you would expect. Think of every game that shows the 3 images side by side and tells you to move the slider until you can't see the first imag3 and barely can see the middle. I never do that, since the game ends up being too dark for me. The majority of people don't like the correct color and darkness, but prefer a brighter washed out image. The thief side by side showed probably closer to the correct image on the darker old side, and the new bright side was washed out and too bright. Thief is a dark game, it's supposed to look like that.
@devilmikey00 Жыл бұрын
Thief looked awful on the new one, it completely washed out the dark areas to grey. It didn't even reveal any new detail you couldn't see before. It's just objectively worse. The original needed to bump the brightness like 20-30% but what they did feels passive aggressive. "You want it brighter? FINE!"

I actually do not like a “washed out” look.. It just means that sometimes I’m changing my settings in the middle of a game ? Some games, struggle with this more than others, obviously.. Personally EON as a brand I don't recommend any of their products. I ordered the Gamecube one and I had to get it replaced like 3x times because they kept sending me faulty units because the one of the plugs was always bent. I got really frustrated with them that I decided I would just save up to buy the official component cables because at least those will work. The dual output is nice but there is other devices that you may end up getting if you need to have that feature and it will be used on other systems as well. So ya I agree, don't buy this adapter! There is other cheaper and equally as good options out there.

i'd say this kind of device is perfect for lan-parties where each device has to be also split and streamed without going to pass-through since pass-through introduces lots of issues on various capture cards, but i'd say you could built a set up that is marginally cheaper than buying this adapter.
@ElNeroDiablo Жыл бұрын
I mean, if you need to split the console output to monitor and streaming box; you can get a HDMI 2.0 splitter/mirror box (1 input, 2 outputs) that does 4K60 for like $40 AUD (about $25-30 USD), or get a 1080p60 splitter for like $15-20 AUD ($10-15 USD). For the multi-console streamers; Pair that with a 5-way HDMI switch (5 inputs, 1 output) and you can hook up 5 consoles to the same screen/streaming setup without the hassle of swapping cables around (eg: hook a OG Xbox, X360, XB1 and Xbox Series S/X to the switch, feed the switch to the splitter and enjoy lag-free HD gaming with no upscalers whilst streaming to Twitch et all). I have such a setup where I have my PS3 Super Slim, PS4 Pro, XB1S, WiiU and VitaTV/PSTV set up with a Switch/Splitter combo (with an older HDMI 1.3 splitter) so I can game on my 24" 1080p60 LCD TV and capture the footage on my streaming PC without passthrough lag from the capture card.
@GregAtlas Жыл бұрын
I do like that it has a 3.5mm jack. There are a lot of monitors that have an audio delay or fade the audio out when it's quiet. Having the ethernet ports would be handy as well and provides an all in one solution, though I think most people would have a switch that should be able to handle that task, but maybe not. Dual HDMI out ports could be handy for cards that don't support passthrough. There's also the remote possibility that future capture cards don't do passthrough either. I imagine having dual hdmi out's would be handy for tournament spaces where one screen could be put up on the big monitor and one on the main play screen or even the possibility of still doing a streaming setup with said tournament setup. I do think most people would appreciate the cheaper option though. Assuming it has the quality to last.

You should make an updated comparison video for these adapters. Insurrection industries Carby in my opinion is the best option for people who just want that digital output out of their GameCube. The whole Xbox brightness thing is weird. It looks crushed and too dark with some cables (including analogue cables) but the brighter ones can look a little washed out lol. I remember Game Sacks saying not to play Castlevania Curse of Darkness on Xbox despite the better textures/resolution and whatever else because the image was way too dark. Turns out I'm sure it was a cable related issue, which comes up elsewhere too. I have 2 OG Xboxes I have games I can only play on them, and will once I recap them but getting into the AV solutions, even just to get a good RGB/YPbPr signal to convert to VGA is a nightmare honestly. Easy as pie on every other console I own lol.

Also heard really good things about the Xedusa adapter, just slightly more than the Xbox2HDMI.

Anyone remember the video where MJR was hooking up old consoles to his CRT via HDRetrovision? I have been looking for that video, but cannot find it anywhere.

happy with my retrotink 5x-pro, it does everything (and it is an upscaler too) I need.

me personally I would recommend monster component cables hooked up to an upscaler but I understand that’s not gonna be for everyone, that can get really expensive

I don’t know if it really looks “better”. The new version seems to have gone too far in the other direction and at least over capture, the picture looks a little blown out? Thanks for the update!

I really like the Super 64 EON I have but absolutely adore the spice orange GC EON the company put together for me when I couldn't find an affordable on online thanks to scalpers! I so I love the company but you're right about the cost of these. While it's cool that EON makes them to match specific consoles I see this as a bonus not a feature. The upscaling is where it's at and what most are looking for. Not sure what puts them in that price range but bet if they focused more on function rather than form and lowered the cost by $50-$80 they'd probably sell a lot more but I'm not a market researcher and so what do I know! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i’ll stick to the simple xbox2hdmi . i have all my old consoles connected to a 2008 Sony Bravia that had every kind of input i needed. composite, component, hdmi, rgb. when that tv dies ill have to start getting these hdmi solutions. (edit: and i also have video running through a sony surround sound receiver which ends up giving me four component input for og xbox, wii (which makes a huge difference and gives me widescreen) n64 and snes.

Any tips on how/where to get an OG Xbox repaired or already repaired?

I mean is it technically the best hdmi solution for the xbox? Yeah probably. Is it worth the price? Yeah, definitely not lol, i agree with you pretty much, the xbox2hdmi is a quarter of the price and has identical image quality, which is all most people really care about, dual hdmi and lan connections are just so niche, and even with those additions, this shouldn't be more than 100 bucks. If they basically put an mclassic inside the adapter to have an optional upscaling mode then MAYBE itd be worth the price, but even then, itd be better to just have a separate upscaler for multiple systems. Yeah idk i just really cant justify or recommend it outside of maybe a professional setting, or maybe if you really love the original xbox and it goes on sale or something

You should have mentioned that that range you can get upscalers and might even show the difference for the same amount of money spent

I'd say the Chimeric adapter would be a good alternative if they were still being made. Love mine 💚

I ordered chimeric and it has noise. Creator would not swap or refund.
