+SUPER NOVA X INFINITY001 I do very much love my PSP. I have noticed atleast here in Australia though games remain cheap the console (especially the 3000) are getting very pricey - are you finding that to be the same from where you hail from? also, im curious why the 2000 is an oddball to you? PS - Remember that Sony Xperia Play phone that had flip out physical game buttons - could that be considered a console?

Nokia N-Gage. For 2003, having online gameplay was a big deal. It wasn't real-time, but even something like bluetooth multiplayer made it unique. Pathway to Glory I & II had some great production values for a handheld game like motion capture and an orchestrated soundtrack, and overall it was just ahead of its time.

Vectrex! Yes! I was at a gaming convention in my hometown a few months back and they had this tiny TV on a table and controller connected to it with what looked like a retro version of gradius on it, but as I started it I was AMAZED at how freaking cool this thing looked while I was playing it, and the controls were very responsive with no issues whatsoever, it literally felt like you were playing a miniaturized version of an arcade cabinet. The footage you see on this vid can't describe how well it looks when you're actually playing it, but as Metaljesus mentioned these things cost an arm and a leg to own since they're so rare, but if you ever encounter it anywhere definitely check it out.

Ice Kold Killa Paul is full if poop. Soviets indeed made a knockoff version of Atari's pong console. there were multiple versions of it. Most popular one was called "Videosport". Another one was "Elektronika Eksi Video". Nothing like "glaznaya popka" which is literally translated as "butt for eyes". :) Back in early nineties Russian market was flooded with pirated Chinese clones of Atari's. I'd not be surprised if he meant one of those. But they were not Russian made.

In fact only a very small population of guys ARE hot. Hotness is mostly for the attention of the opposite sex. Any human with self esteem does not dress and groom for other people. That is called insecurity. Unless you are on the prowl of course.

My favorite collectible by far is my Virtual Boy, complete in box. I refurbished the ribbon cables with solder to create solid contacts, because the displays were glitching out after years of use. Now it works perfectly and I love it! They're becoming more valuable because there weren't many produced and many were junked when the displays stopped working. In late 1996, I remember seeing a pallet stacked a few feet high of virtual boys at Target. They were selling them for $24.99! If I could go back in time I would buy all of them, because they're going for around $400-$500 new in box right now.
@LucasDrakel7 жыл бұрын
ah, the virtual boy is mine as well... I think it is more for the potential. if you look into the history of the poor thing, its entire birth was Nintendo shooting the poor thing right in its stands. why is it on a stand? Nintendo lawyers wouldn't let them use head straps for fear kids would hurt themselves. why is it a portable? cus Nintendo liked the n64 better. why is it only in red? because the cost had to be cut as much as possible cuz it needed to be 'portable'. Oh, the best part? it does NOT cause eyestrain. during testing people noticed their eyes hurting, so the people that made the original tech started doing testing, and rather than wait to see the results of those tests, they slapped a warning label just in case... The punchline is that it turns out eyes were getting tired because it is actually an exercise for your eyes! they found it potentially improves eyesight in children! if you want to avoid tired eyes, there is an adjustment knob to fix it... you would only know if you read that manual that came with it that no one reads. seriously though, at the time the tech that it used was amazing. the PROTOTYPE ten years before the console could do head tracking, display full color, and was cheaper than modern VR sets (after inflation of course.) EDIT: right after I posted I realized that I made it sound like the prototype was in color. It was not, to cut cost it was red and black too, but the tech and ability to make it color was, the guy who made it wanted it cheap as it could get cus that makes it easier to sell to big companies.

Vita and Wii U.
@OwtDaftUK7 жыл бұрын
What makes the Vita odd is the rear touch pad and I didn't like that personally. The Wii U had the touch screen on the controller and that added very little to the game experience. Well it added a massive price tag on Ebay for replacements.
@MythicSuns7 жыл бұрын
+OwtDaftUK I felt the back touch pad was a crafty way of adding L2 & R2 to the Vita without adding too much physical depth to the console which along with the right analog stick and the front touch screen for L3 & R3 made it the only handheld Playstation with the minimum amount of buttons seen on a dualshock. Honestly if Sony weren't so quick to give up on it and more triple A developers took an interest towards it, it might have lasted a bit longer around the western regions (I've heard it's doing incredibly in Japan though). To me it's one of the most underrated handhelds that's came out this decade.
@OwtDaftUK7 жыл бұрын
I hate touch pads been used as button. It's the main reason I don't use remote play. It should of had clicky analogue sticks and L2 and R2 if they were planning on making it work with the PS4 ahead of time. The PS Vita was very well supported at first and that didn't shift enough Vitas. The console just wasn't selling. Developers aren't gonna make a triple a game for a failing system. It did sold well in Japan which is why it got a lot of Japanese games for it.
@TheZeroSbr7 жыл бұрын
Not even an oddball system. The only unconventional thing about its design is the rear touchpad.
@MythicSuns7 жыл бұрын
+OwtDaftUK So basically it's all on Sony? As for the rear touchpad I respect your opinion, i'm just not sure how sony could've fitted the extra triggers on without fattening up the console even more, same goes for L3 & R3. The only 2 solutions I can think of is for them to either wait for the technology to evolve to the point that they can add the triggers and analog stick buttons without fattening out the console, or just bite the bullet and fatten the console out a bit more.
@alaeriia017 жыл бұрын

Nice picks! Thanks Metal Jesus and co.! Perhaps it is due to nostalgia, but my personal favorite "oddball" would have to be the Watara Supervision. As a child, my mother bought me one at a neat little discount store that we used to have here. It was a handheld console intended to compete with the original Game Boy, selling at a much cheaper price point, and part of a wave of many similar systems released at this time (e.g.: the Bit Corporation Gamate, the Welback Holdings Mega Duck, the Hartung GameMaster, and their seemingly endless variations). Unfortunately, it is also of a lower build quality (e.g.: the plastic does not feel as sturdy, cartridges have exposed pins, etc.), and like the original Game Boy, it has a high amount of ghosting. However, some iterations have a few nice features, such as comfortable buttons and a screen that can tilt upward towards the player. It even had an accessory to connect it to a television! For those who are curious, there are roms and an emulator available for this console floating around on the Internet. Please don't expect much though; you will probably be very disappointed.

My favourite would be the Polybius. Just a fun system to play. Also a great idea to put a video together like this. Very enjoyable to watch.

Videos with everybody are pretty cool. It kind of reminds me of when I was a kid and MTV did a special with all the VJs or some such similar. The only thing you're missing is Pauly Shore showing up out of nowhere as an impromptu special guest.

Wow! Now I'm feeling really old. I got to play a brother's friend of mine's Vectrex when it was released in Spain. The plastic sheets didn't only change the colors but also defined the game area.

I'm going to go with the iQue player, AKA The Chinese N64. It's a neat console that is essentially an official Nintendo licensed plug and play system that you bought digitally distributed N64 games for and downloaded them onto a memory card. It came out in the early 2000's in China and wasn't a huge success. I learned about it on the KZbin channel Rerez, and it was so interesting I had to get my own.

I've wanted a Vectrex, a Bally Home Arcade, and a CD-i for a while now, but a couple not mentioned that I'd like are a Sharp X68000, a PC-FX, and a Panasonic Q.
