"LIFESTYLE"? "FASHION STATEMENT"? Jesus. Fans ask so much of musicians. Isn't it enough that you have the freedom to critique their music since they are not rehashing "Master of Puppets" for the umpteenth time and that upsets you, yet you're still upset over the fact that they wanna change up their appearance? You metalheads are not a very open-minded bunch, are you? Would you have liked "Load" and "Reload" had they kept their hair long?
@AngelofAnguish10 жыл бұрын
tangiers59 In my opinion, what have to understand is, since professional musicians ARE "public figures" and "make music for a living," it's US, the FANS, who spend OUR HARD EARNED MONEY to be ENTERTAINED, so, therefore, YES, we DO HAVE or RESERVE THE RIGHT to "scrutinize" what they do-(be it) OFF-stage and/or ON-stage. In my opinion, as far as "what they look like," (like or as I said earlier,) if a band plays or is gonna play ROCK/METAL music, they SHOULD have the LOOK to "match." As far as being "open-minded," we (metalheads) ARE "open-minded"-it depends on the issue or "topic of conversation." As far as Metallica "having long hair" on "Load" and "Re-Load", I don't care, because, in my opinion, the music on both efforts, (when) "compared to their '80s music," is "too mainstream."

Load and Reload KICKS ASS!!! Fav albums from Metallica are: Justice Master Load Reload After St. Anger and some kind of Monster DVD Metallica basically died for me. Only way to get musical respect again from me is to make a great album again and then keep on going making great music. Load and Reload has great prduction and they experiment with lots of different emotions and elements that makes them feel like the most well crafted music they have made with songs like where the wild things are, Low man's lyric, bleeding me, The house jack built ++ You can't just make random riffs, glue them together and then shout over them and call it a day. On Load and Reload James sang more than ever and also used different vocal harmonies to create som eerie dark stuff which I love. I felt like Metallica was progressing as musicians on Load and Reload and then suddenly got struck in the head or something when making St. Anger and Dethmagnetic.
@perpetualmotion357 Жыл бұрын
I put their 80's material clearly above the rest, but I tend to agree with what you are saying post 2000. Ever since St Anger, something drastically went wrong with their songwriting formula. It's like James lost all his creative powers or something. Load/Reload were solid hard rock albums. The production was on point, James voice was still there, and a lot of those riffs would make Iommi proud. I thought maybe St Anger was a one off where the band was on the brink of destruction which heavily affected the writing, and they would later return to form. How you described Death Magnetic with random riff just patched together and James vocal delivery of just screaming over top of them until he's out of breath is exactly what I hear too. The same thing carried on over to Hardwired. It' like the real James was abducted after the S&M thing. No Leaf Clover and -Human were still quality songs and sounded like part of their natural evolution. People saying Metallica came back to form with their last two..I just don't hear it. I would rather listen to Load/Reload any day of the week over what they've done the past 20 years and I'm primarily an 80's Metallica fan. It just goes to show that playing heavy and faster doesn't really mean that much. That classical element that made the band so great when they played metal is not there anymore. You used to be able to put their old stuff on a piano and it sounded like it was created by a great composer from the past. Aside from a couple songs, almost all of their newer stuff doesn't translate at all to other instruments.
@FrankTheDoomriderJohansen Жыл бұрын
@@perpetualmotion357 I have to say that the Hardwired album was a big step in the right direction with songs like Dream no more, Halo on fire, Spit out the bone, Moth into flame, Here comes revenge. Still got a long way to go sadly. They put out their worst song ever on that album as well (Atlas Rise), The intros to basically all songs are horrendous. long dragged out copy paste repetitive stuff combined with garbage solos. You don't have to play EVERYTHING and every variation 4 times! So I love about 50% of that album. Over these past 7 years my top list changed a little bit: Justice Load Black album ReLoad Master If I am to conclude the entire list then: Hardwired Kill em all Ride the Lightning St.Anger Death Magnetic The new album is sounding very promising with my fave song so far being "If Darkness Had a Son". Probably best song I have heard since ReLoad, or maybe I should say since "I Disappear" (Funny how Metallica disappeared after that song ;). Overall the songs sound better produced, thicker sound and more atmospheric. Dare I say closer to ReLoad? Not that gun metal grey sound anymore and actually putting some verb back into their sound. Kirk is actually making some great solo stuff again as well. + adding more WHA extensions and filling in more of the sound again. This is actually the most hyped I have been for a new Metallica album since ReLoad. Hopefully it doesn't crash and burn on release.

At first he looked like he did in 89, then cut his hair, stopped wearing black and started wearing shorts with hiking boots on stage.
