For those who wonder, though this bass lines are really cool, they where recorded without the band present, therefore Jason and the sound engineere just made something that would not worked in the album, at least not to what Metallica expected the album to sound like, this easily audibale on the "enhanced" bass mixing on YT, even the more professional ones. The tone is just too farty and lacks low freQuencies, on top of that J just doubled James on guitar, something that sounded weird but given nobody was there to tell Jason "just play the high notes one octave lower" he did whatever he thought he could done, and the Justice album is loaded with higher notes riffs. All was recorded in 3 days also and they ran out of studio time so there was no way to fix all that. IN comparison, take the black album, not musically, but sound wise, the Bass is doubled tracked, one for distortion, other one is clean, the bass took weeks to record despise the songs been easier than in the previous album and Jason was told what the band was expecting first hand from James and Lars. same with MoP, though the bass is not double tracked there i belive. My point is, Lars fucked up just lowering the bass, but people don´t realize the original bass would not worked either, what the band should have done was been there with Jason in the first place or record the bass again after they listened the original bass lines didn´t worked, but again given they where not really present they didn´t knew until it was too late and ran out of money for studio.

sort of, it comes to my mind how Jason, a good bass player who had previously recorded thrash albums with Flotsam and Jetsam just did smething so amateur. I don´t mean it in a wrong way, many of us guitar players, the first time we play a bass just play exactly like on a guitar, and you can do that but is not gonna sound right lol. But yes, everything could be fixed if the band was present.@@AltairCreedZ

That said, shortest straw and self titled’s hammer on parts both become nearly impossible playing each note in the lowest possible spot.

Incredible tone and playing, absolute shame the bass is so quiet on the album. Also the biggest missed opportunity in the history of the universe to not do a proper mix with bass for the Justice box set. Jason is too good for this world, man.

I've always liked Jason, from his stage presence to his heavy pick playing but Lars and James although wrong to mix him out AJFA, the bass line does not deviate from the riff in the way Cliff would. Maybe he wasn't allowed?
