I was also lucky enough to have attended this show at the old Gardens. Had seats in the red section on Kirk's side. If I remember correctly, the stage was set up for only half of the arena, which was great because you could see them perfectly. I clearly remember Jason falling during For Whom The Bell Tolls. Out of the six times I've seen Metallica, this and the Justice show @ MLG were the best, hands down.

Also saw them headline with Queensryche (playing Mindcrime in its entirety) in 1989. Fast forward to 1991, I was in college and when the Black Album came out, we all sat in our weed dealer's living room, took bong rips and listened to it front to back. AND WERE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED. I have never experienced disappointment with a band like I did that day in August 1991. We just looked at each other like "what the FUCK?!?!"

Kirk Hammett is so underrated as a rhythm guitar player. He matches Jaymz chug for chug. Nowadays, he even carries the rhythm sometimes when Jaymz takes a break here and there or throws in an up stroke or a sustained chord so he doesn't burn himself out. Don't get me wrong, Jaymz is still a rhythm God... but I think people sometimes forget that Kirk is just as good and they really push each other to stay on their game.

James is the fucking man literally the best front man to walk earth its crazy how he just kept getting better every year, all the guys were all on different levels during these years but Hetfield literally has out of this world stage presence and such a cool persona, he was easily the best rhythm player and metal singer its literally insane. Man this concert is just perfect, every breakdown where they all head bang together is just awesome. Very few bands can play their entire setlist of songs faster and better then the mix, blows my mind how talented this group is but we will never see another blonde power house kid with an explorer dominating the music scene with shear skill and passion, James has one of if not the best stories in Music. Not to mention the Kirk the Ripper was also the coolest and most humble Metal lead at the time in my opinion. Young Metallica was and is untouchable because they were already so skilled but they then played for their brother Cliff and channeled their anger and sadness of his passing into what he and they loved, Whilst casually out performing every band to exist in their early 20s and going on to dominate Music! Metal was usually either all speed, jibberish nonsense, or just too flat, (Bands like Dio, Priest and Ozzy etc were in their own league aswell but werent nearly as heavy or quick as Metallica). My point from this stoned essay that you weirdly read is Metallica are unbiasly the best band on the planet.

Yeah, he said during those first few records (And I assume tours also) he was trying to prove himself to everyone so they can see he was a good drummer. And after he proved himself by the time The Black Album came out (I presume) he just began to relax more. And soon enough, he became slower, not really because he sucks, but more-so that he has proved himself already that there wasn't a need to be fast anymore.

According to some quotes in Joel McIver's Metallica book, Lars pretty much totally quit training the drums after the black album, and his musical interests drifted away from classic metal as the 90's went on. That makes sense because we've seen the drumming degrade accordingly.

I love what Jason brought to the group but, when I see footage from this period, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sadness. Not only that Cliff was robbed of life BEFORE his prime, but that Jason was put through the wringer by the band. He was no Cliff, but he deserved much more credit than what was given to him, especially to be treated the way he was leading to his quitting the band. Double tragedy!

I know man I mean he wasn't trying to replace cliff but he bought his own energy to the table and james lars and Kirk treated him like trash I get that they were griefing cliff death but I mean don't take it out on Jason who didn't have no responsibility on cliff death I mean I'm sure cliff would be proud of what Jason brought to the stage every night I mean cliff parents did give jason there blessing but what dosen't kill you make you stronger

@@jay-ci3lc Kirk didn’t treat him great at the start but learnt to get along with him after a couple years. James and Lars on the other hand were quite the opposite. The other reason for hazing Jason according to the band was because he acted like he was their biggest fan and it pissed them off.

yup 10-20% faster than studio version, proves they are not playing to a click, yet completely nail everything, Kirk rips every solo no problem, Jame's vocals right on the money, no downtuning, still playing in standard.... this is real music folks, a thing of the past. I could care less if they were high or drunk, the performance is in your face kick ass Metallica in their prime.

"Proves they are not playing to a click". Is that what you said? Because I didn't think anybody is debating that? And plus.....what metal/thrash band plays to a click in a live show? Certainly not anybody I listen to. I saw this tour; but only a few months earlier than this show. In April I think. Cliff was still alive. They were the opener for Ozzy.

Saw them in March of 1986 , just before they went on tour with Ozzy and blew up. Less than 1000 people, Cliff was alive ,and Metallica was playing with Armored Saint with John Bush. Got to meet all of them, got to sing a part of creeping death, and at 16 years old, it was the greatest concert of my life. I'm still playing bass to this day and I got to meet and see one of my heroes months before he would unfortunately lose his life. That is a cherished memory, I only wish I would have been a little more sober! But that's just nitpicking.🤘🤘🤘
