Great reaction brother, if you wanna hear from James himself, he was on Joe Rogan recently, here's a link to a few minutes of them talking about this concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p562mJ9qotyNarM James says 500,000 or 300,000 something like that. But most of my research resulted in over a million attendance and officials stop counting at some point and just let people in Cheers!

Back in the early 90's I found myself with an extra ticket to Metallica. I asked my roommate (a black guy) if he wanted to go. He was unsure and asked me what it would be like. I told him imagine seventeen thousand white guys chanting Die Die Die. He went anyway. Kenny B was a stand up dude.

HILARIOUS! I’ve LOVED taking my melanin enhanced friends to metal shows, because without fail, they’ve had a great time; and it made it so much more fun to share in learning something new. Just as I enjoyed going to hip hop shows with them. When you can be you, hang with folks from a different culture and everyone still has fun, I’ll take that every time.

That's the thing about metal/rock shows....it's a beautiful circle of energy. The crowd is feeding off the energy of the band & the band is feeding off the energy of the crowd until it just reaches a fever pitch.

This concert was in Tushino Airfield in Moscow in I believe 1991. It was estimated to be more than 1.5 MILLION people there💯💯

When some metal heads complained that Metallica had sold out in changing their style with the Black album, Lars said , "Yeah, we sold out...every show". Brazil's another place that you will see ridiculously huge crowds..they love metal music and don't get too many tour stops, there. Check out some of Iron Maiden's "Rock in Rio" concert footage.

Actually Metallica was very successful before the change. At the time the change was more of a risk than sellout. They were just talented enough to pull it off. Someone name another band that's existed for 40 years, every album sounds unique and dominated thrash, heavy metal and rock. Every single album a huge success. Don't think about it because nobody else has the same accomplishments

1.6 Million people....and this is 3rd on the all time list of crowds at an open air concert. #1 is Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a crowd of 3.5 Million in 1994. #2 was Jean Michel Jarre in 1997 also in Russia, like that Metallica show, with 3.5 Million.

Saw them live. They do have "money to burn" for the rest of their lives. I saw them back in the day, before James' voice went. Best show of my life. So loud it vibrated in my chest and I was still buzzing and a little deaf long after the show ended.

In 1991, at the behest of Mikhail Gorbachev Tushino Airfield was used to host the free Monsters of Rock concert featuring AC/DC, Metallica, the Black Crowes, and Pantera. Official estimates placed the crowd at between 800,000 and 1,000,000 people. The crowd was unofficially estimated to number at least 1.5 million people. Furthermore, 200,000 people attended the "Inside Bram" backdoor tour. The "Bram" backstage tour was planned to tour through Germany, France, and Spain, but was canceled due to health issues.

Harvester of Sorrow, from that show. Amazing. Actually when they started the song Lars hit his finger in the snare drum and then continued the show bleeding. There is a picture on the internet. Lars - bleeding for Moscow. You are gonna love Harvester of Sorrow
