Apparently he blew out his vocals recording 'So What' (a B-Side for the Unforgiven single). The Single was released at the end of October '91 so perhaps this was before he blew his vocals.

The black album was to bring in the mainstream crowd, that's why they did like 5 videos and slowed their music down to a crunch, it was heavy metal now, not speed metal. That's why the old school Metallica fans like me were pissed. The Metallica we took so much shit for liking by the mainstream crowd in high school....well....now those assholes were listening to Metallica. Jason was really good on Bass , but his voice was more raw and strained shouting the lyrics compared to James' powerful refined barking vocals . James really refined his vocals with voice exersises during the 80s til now .

James is a lead singer of Metallica, his manner of singing, presentation has conquered the world..and don't forget that James was recorded 100% of rhythm guitar parts. The fact he can play and sing live recorded parts... he is God in my opinion !!! Jason Newsted vocal abilities were also used during his era in the band, because it was perfect combination with James. The way Jason performed was so spectacular, powerful and amazing. Miss him, respect and will always love him. They were so beautiful. Amazing era.

By the end of the subsequent tour (1992), James' voice was forever changed. He still a lot of the original 80's rasp here. Sounds great! I suppose there is only so long you can pull that off for.

This is the MetallicA that I miss so much from the early 90's Era! This Iconic MetallicA is the reason I started learning guitar and bought my own ESP Explorer (pre lawsuit) guitar just like the one James is playing in this concert and I had to take out of the case to play along with this concert Gem I found by accident. Im so happy I got to see them play live in this ERA in 93 in Mexico City at the Sports Palace and got to make great memories with them!

The way I remember it (memory is a bit hazy though) I heard Enter Sandman for the first time on the train to Denmark from some other group of people with a cassette player who invited us to listen. Don't know why I (we) hadn't bought the single yet, but thats how I remember it... Amazing times! :)

I attended this gig. It was the black Crowe,queensryche Metallica and Ac Dc. First after the release og the black album. The weather was very good so you had too drink water throu the day. Lars grew up not so far from this arena so it's like a hometown gig. Maybe they were the best act that day. Cool too see this after all this years pro film and best sound quality. The bootleg video excist

This tour is in my top 5 of my concert going career. Some May surprise you. 1. Floyd 2. INXS 3. Metallica 4. Aerosmith 5. GnR ( right before they released Appetite, didn’t know who they were. Front and center.) Many other runners up that were incredible. But these are the live performances that blew me away. Unfortunately I missed VH in 83 due to having a high school wrestling tourney that same weekend. Should’ve fucking called in sick. Cause I’m sick I missed them.
