This is the best tutorial I have seen. The guy isn't trying to talk to you. Talking is a distraction.....it's for those who barely got thier first guitar and need thier hand held while learning a song. He's playing the notes at a comfortable speed for players that already understand the guitar tab instruction. Things I like about this video are: #1 The guy is not talking. #2 He is not stopping and playing the riffs over and over again to show you what it looks like when played in correct timing. #3 The blue highlight as it travels past the tab notes as he plays them. Just like a pro guitar player can read music notes, I can read tab that fast. #4 I like the fact that there are no spaces between the tab notes to indicate WHEN the note should be played. I mean, let's face it, if you are trying to learn to play this song, then you sure as hell should know what the timing should be because you've heard it a billion times. When a long ringing note is struck, and that blue highlight stops moving, I take that split second to look down the bars to see what's coming up next. #5 The inset video of the strumming hand.....I don't really focus on it, my eyes focus slightly ahead of the blue highlight, but I visually sense motion of that strumming hand (kinda like peripheral vision).....my ears focus on the the sound...obviously, and my fretting hand feels the vibrations of the guitar neck. Great vid!!!! Subscribed!!!!!

I agree for everything except point 4, I think there should be at least some kind of musical notation, like in CoverSolutions' videos, which are awesome too. When you're a young guitarist, the way you play the rythm mays sound good to you, when in fact it's completely wrong. Not paying attention to the notation is a VERY bad habit when you're playing covers (especially those with odd time signatures).

0:01 I'm pretty sure it's all played on E (power chords on E, A), *not* E and A with power chords on A and D 0:10 It should be 5-0-4-0-3-0-2-1 (the last note is F) Seriously, it sounds so wrong here. 1:21 It should be all downstrokes. I watched another minute and there is really really a lot of mistakes there that I'm not even gonna point out. And I'm not even talking about things like the way he's playing it or where on the freatboard he's playing the same notes. He's playing completely *different notes* there. *Don't learn from this tutorial,* find something else, really.

Though I have big respect for all the efforts put in this video @berni2905 is right - many mistakes here. Alone when the solo begins at about 4:08 the second tone is like 3 halftones to high.. The only explanation for me is that he used a software to extract the guitar tones which failed at some points. You could never think that tone is right when listening to the song. Giving a thumbs up anyway - like said great effort otherwise! 👍👍👍

If in a blind test you could tell the difference between someone who downpicks at a tempo which is too fast for them and someone who is experienced at alternate picking I would be damn surprised, the only difference would probably be that the guy alt picking sounded more fluid and in time, If you practice properly your upstroke will sound identical to you downstroke. It might be more convenient at first to downpick when palm muting, but at 200bpm any convenience downpicking is offset by the inconveniences.
@NunyaBizniz699 жыл бұрын
Downpicking does produce a different sound than alternate picking. Many people find it "heavier", which is why it is used so much.
@arsenalfanrichi9 жыл бұрын
ThrowTheCheeseGuy I used to think so too, I used to use it as a justification for neglecting practicing my alternate picking more. The truth is though it's all about articulation, most people articulate with a downstroke more aggressively because it's stronger and they practice it more, but two notes picked with the same part of the pick and the same power of attack will sound exactly the same regardless of whether one is a downstroke and one is an upstroke, If your downstroke sounds stronger, then hit your upstroke harder.
@arsenalfanrichi9 жыл бұрын
There are tonnes of thrash tunes which alternate pick and the strokes aren't audibly different aside from one another, again I think it comes down to dynamics, some guitarists like to accentuate rhythms which may happen to land on downstrokes, they might also seem to sound clearer because there are pauses or longer time intervals between notes. I don't want a debate, I'm just saying I really struggle to tell a difference other than deliberate ones which could equally as easily (To those with adequate technique) be played with upstrokes and downstrokes.
@Prometheus40966 жыл бұрын
arsenalfanrichi This is so correct. The only valid argument in favour of downpicking only, which I actually never see made, is that it can help with chunking. I mean mentally subdividing the notes you are playing so that you can keep track of the ryhthm. If a pattern starts sometimes on a downstroke and sometimes on an upstroke, then that is difficult to chunk because chunks that should he identical now invert their pattern picking every other time. But like I said, I have never seen this argument made and this is only true for those riffs where chunking produces a chunk with an odd number of notes. Usually people saying 'downpicking only is mandatory' don't make any argument. They see no need for it, oddly. And when they do make one, their argument makes no sense in terms of physics or biomechanics.

refrain is the E powerchord and then 3 muted notes from the lower e string and in the intro you descend 3-0-2-1 to the F. anyway good explanation
