The first couple of minutes, while they're sitting on the stage together, is actually part of 'To Live is to Die' from the ...And Justice For All album, which was written as a tribute to late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. When they jump up and the music hits is when Master of Puppets actually begins. The song itself is about addiction and dependency with the lyrics revolving around the subject of drug addiction, hence the middle soft interlude which invokes a feeling of soaring up away from the world as the subject of the song gets high before the instrumentation takes on an ominous and sinister tone as our addict crashes back down.

@wompa70 - Cliff Burton... and it is amazing that at that time, first couple of albums+, they were all guys barely above 20 years old. Young guys. The albums "Master of Puppets" and "Ride the Lightning" = think of drugs, and the lyrics and songs become much clearer too, with much deeper meaning.
@rademilf Жыл бұрын
You pay attention to the text. Hetfield has written an extraordinary work from the point of view of being a drug that wants to control a man, taking over his thoughts and life only to finally kill him. There is probably no more direct message - don't take drugs because they will kill you. Imagine that they play this piece in every concert to this day, and there are well over 50 of these concerts every year. This is the power of influence.

Thanks for nice reaction! Love to see people enjoying when they hear Metallica first time. And as you noticed, lyrics often have a meaningful story behind, so it's good to think of them while listening. And they really offer nice transitions in their songs. Some recommendations, trying to get broad view of their musical perspective: - Fade to Black. Heavy and beautiful ballad with deep sad message, one of their classics. Studio version is excellent to hear the guitar solo fully, as it's voted high on some best guitar solo ever votes. But many live versions are good option too, for example Lincoln 2018. - One. Classic reaction song in youtube. Also has good changes and transitions of different types of feelings, and tells very tragic story. Has many good live shows, for example Ireland 2019 is a good recent choice. - The Day that Never Comes. Just don't go for official music video, it distracts too much and is not so connected to song's story. Better to choose live version, for example from Quebec Magnetic show. - Battery, from this same concert as this video, Seattle 89. This really shows their energy and fast trash style during their young prime times. - Ride the Lightning, for example live Boston 2022. From 2nd album, title song. - And from their album from this year, Screaming Suicide, very fresh live concert on April 27 2023, just few weeks ago. They are still going strong :) Enjoy your Metallica journey!

I love how people pick a version of this song (live) that this young lady will never want to hear again. If it's requested enough… sure. … but of her own free will, she will never want to hear this mess again. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. (Yes… I went there!) I'm so happy that some people think that just because they like a certain version of a song played live… it’s because they fell in love with the original studied version… and it’s that version that we all compare it to when it's played live. How close it is… ? How precise they are…? How close they sound to the studio version…? … because we have veteran ears to this music… we want a new person to listen with the same experience under their belt. This is not the case. I'M WILLING TO BET… that through the first half of the song, she couldn't begin to tell you how the main riff went. She couldn't tell you a melody. This is obviously not her fault. It is yours. The people that insisted on her listening to a live version as if she understood it already. She just hadn't 👂 the actual song. You guys make the world go around. You very intelligent beings… you've done it again! 🙄😵😖😣🤢🖕 To the lovely host… I think you are great. You have no fault in this. To be clear… I subbed because I liked some other reactions that you had. These fools gave you a horrible example of this beautiful song. Listen to the studio version… you'll get what I mean. Easily. Thanks, for sharing!

I love this song, they are so damn talented, but the lyrics are important for the context The song is split into 3 parts for a reason and it is the story it is telling, the song is about addiction, the "master of puppets" is drugs and the song is a warning for drugs The first part is how u fall for the drugs and it gets a stronger grip of u over time, the second part is all the years that seemingly drift by as u are numbed by the drugs, the third part is the desperation u feel when u realize u can't get out

During this heavy metal journey, you need to look into one of the most influential bands and guitarists of all time, PANTERA and the legendary late great DIMEBAG DARRELL. I'd start with cemetery bags. The solo will speak for itself as so almost all of dimes solos. PANTERA is responsible for a new genre called groove metal and Darrell is regarded as one of the best of all time. Even from Eddie van Halen himself which is why Darrell is buried with Eddie's original bumblebee guitar from the first Van Halen album. Eddie said dime is an original so he deserves an original.
