The song is about drugs being a puppeteer of an addicts life and controlling them. The whole tempo of the song and change ups are to show how you would come down, crave, get high , then crash and repeat drugs! You should watch the lyrics video and you will truly appreciate this song.

Congratulations. You are now fledgling Metalheads/Head Bangers. To become "members in good standing" you must now dive down the Metallica rabbit-hole. Give the official video a look. It was filmed about 10-12 years ago (live) and is interspersed with footage from a movie they produced. The energy with which they play and the interactions with the crowd are STILL as off the hook as it was back in the day. Moscow 1991 is also an incredible show (my favorite is Harvester Of Sorrow). Good luck on your journey.

9:39 - James punches the crash cymbal, it put Lars' drumming off beat but it still worked, James looked at Lars hoping he gets back in sync, he did but James' hand hurts a bit and you can tell that as he is sloppy for a second but the reactor's voices hid it a lot...lol It is subtle. This is the power of Metallica on 1980s cocaine, everyone!
@bravo14952 жыл бұрын
The drums are in 4/4 timing, but the pauses and the fact the picking in the guitar riff are somewhat uniquely offbeat is why the timing sounds off, but Lars is playing mostly standard 4/4 (1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4) If you count along 1 2 3 4 during the song (with the drums only, tune out the guitar) you'll catch it, it's all in 4/4

You are 100% correct. Lars as a drummer is unique that he accents the "off-beat" So when you were saying 3 count instead of 4 count... I appreciate that you noticed that.
