I've said it before on other channels, but you really can't understand the true power of music until you've sat in front of a full symphony orchestra in full flow. I've seen several of the loudest bands on the planet, back when they were allowed to be LOUD, including AC/DC, G&R, Nirvana, MBV & yes, Metallica, and okay, they could leave your ears ringing, but NOTHING pins you back in your seat like a good orchestra...

This was a special 2-night event in 1999 when Metallica teamed up w/ the San Francisco Symphony to perform their songs backed by a classic music backdrop... (the late) Michael Kamen was an accomplished classical composer/ arranger who had arranged the strings for the 1991 Metallica track 'Nothing else matters'... and he was asked to conduct the symphony and arrange the parts. Metallica had also written 2 new songs that were to be played those nights - 'No leaf clover' ... and 'Minus human'. In 1969, Deep Purple had recorded a 'Concerto' album w/ a classical symphony w/ the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall, London... but it wasn't commercially successful at the time (even though it did enjoy a decent following)... but that was the first time a rock band did a performance w/ a classical orchestra in tow. 30 years later, Metallica attempted the format and it worked... classic Metallica songs like 'Master of Puppets' ... 'Of wolf and man' ... and the instrumental 'The call of Ktulu'... sounded fresh and new 🤘🤘🔥 The double live 'S&M' album was released in late '99 and was a huge commercial success. In the wake of the 'S&M' album, Deep Purple also made a fresh attempt in 1999 at a performance recorded for the live album 'In concert with the London Symphony Orchestra' (this time w/ Steve Morse on guitar) ... Scorpions also recorded a symphony album 'Moment of Glory'... w/ the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2000... In 2004, Meat Loaf performed and released his classic album 'Bat out of hell' performed live w/ the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra... and Kiss did the 'Alive IV Symphony' album in 2003 also performed w/ the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Some of my musician friends have said that bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Savatage and some others are very classically based bands, and this video proves it. Even if the symphony was not in this one, you can hear that the progressions and arrangements follow that formula. The winners got money and equipment! Much love to Metallica for doing all they do behind the scenes. They also donate money to local food banks at every show. Their foundation also supports trade schools around the country. It’s worth it to look at their organization!

So I came back and watched your vid after leaving a very negative comment. I never paid much attention to this era og Metallica, and assumed this song was off one of their mid-90s Load/Reload albums. It is not - and instead was written for or at least first released as part of this S&M show, where the band played their older material with a symphony very roughly shoe-horned onto some very great (and loved) music. But this song had none of that baggage, it was neither "classic Metallica", nor the (personally) much maligned Load/Reload era weak songs. On its own this is a decent song, if I take away all of my negative opinions and give it a fair shake. That's obvious based solely on your very positive reception to it. I'm both surprised and very happy to see how much you guys enjoyed the song. The band generates a lot of very strong feelings from fans. They are a VERY important band in rock, ranked in a way (by me) alongside Zeppelin. Not quite the absolute innovators that The Beatles and Sabbath were, but still innovative and creative, and very influential. Their first 4, 5, or 6 (I count the Garage Days EP) albums are all very strong, and a couple are considered some of the best of all times by many. Unlike Zeppelin, they stuck it out far past their prime, in a genre that is dominated by youthful energy. Metal is very much a young man's game. Even worse imo, they very much vhanged their style for years, on a dime. To see what many would consider Metallica's prime check out their Seattle 89 show. Recorded right before they blew up and became the biggest band in the world (with 1991s The Black Album), the show features all of their best songs, from an era of the band that all fans would consider their best, 1983 - 1989. Some of these songs - like Battery, or Blackened - might be a bit much. They are high-energy, and very intense, and may not be your cup of tea - yet. But there are some more slower tempo fan favourites as well like Master Of Puppets, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), The Four Horsemen, and Seek and Destroy. The whole show is amazing, and the energy throughout is insane. Anyway, I feel bad leaving the negative comments on a video you guys seemed so pumped for so I'd like to apologize for the bad vibes. Hope it doesn't in any way derail your Metallica journey. They're a great band, with great lyrics, and great live performances. 🤘✌ Sorry for any typos, there's no way I'm reading all that again lol!

The wonderful symphony aside, this is a sad pastiche of Metallica.....especially the saccharine Chad Kroeger-esque drivel from James (dude, what happened to you)...... On the other hand, 'Master of Puppets', from Battery through Damage Inc. are 8 tracks of the most devastating heavy metal one will every experience. The same can be said about their first Album (Kill 'em All) and a close third is their sophomore offering (Ride the lightning). The terrible death of Cliff Burton was the death of the 'real' Metallica IMO. Suggestions: Kill em All; The Four Horsemen - Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth ) - Whiplash - No Remorse Ride The Lightning; Fight Fire With Fire - Creeping Death - Fade To Black - For Whom The Bell Tolls Master Of Puppets; Every single track! Love the Channel, gentlemen.♥♥
