Yeah, except I get the impression the rest of the band found that to be annoying. Jason had been following the band for years so he was a mega fan, and James said they wanted to "un-fan" him. Jason acts like he has band for years, but James. Lars and Kirk have only known him for less than a year at this point, I can imagine how that can be kind of grating.

@@bryansteele832 he proved himself since the moment he walked in the door and nailed the auditions, and brought awesome energy to boot on and off stage. The years-long hazing he endured was a shame, like if ANYONE joined their favourite band they'd be stoked as hell, pretty immature of the guys to hold that against him

This is when James’ confidence began to rise and started asserting his presence much more. In the Cliff years, yes he wrote the songs, but he was a very shy person where Lars and Cliff did a lot more of the press. After Cliff passed , James really stepped up his dominance as you could tell by the time Justice came out. That’s just my 2 cents

Yeah. You can see afterwards Cliff's death had a huge impact on him. It had been a few years but when Justice came out he looked older and sang deeper. He lost a brother and that had to be the hardest thing for him since his mother passed. Actually even Kirk and Lars matured quite a bit from the heartache as well.

If anything for more audible bass guitar, the best (despite being quite unpolished overall) are Flemming's own rough mixes.

@@XXLRebel I don't think they were implying it was bad per se', just that you can tell how passionate they were, and hungry they were. When they wrote 8 songs, all 8 songs went on the album. When they found mega-success it afforded them almost too much time to overthink everything to death in the studio. Before mega-success they'd basically have the album written and THEN hit the studio.

All i saw in Stuttgart was metal fans with demin and leather jackets with patches of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, etc. They loved the heavy stuff. The heavier the better. When i left the USA a month before it was all Poison, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi.

Jason always seemed to push it a bit too far in the beginning with interviews and James and the others didn't care too much for it cause he hadn't put in his dues but would always talk like he did. Just listen to him. James is frowning and probably thinking, "I'm gonna get on his ass about this once we're alone. " All while trying to hide it to the public so no one would think he was a dick. Fuck man, looking back at this now as a man in his 40's... this is tough. You always portray a tough facade, but they are going through some real shit, and they're handling it the best way they know how at that age. We all know that deep down they're hurting...BAD. But they soldiered on for better or for worse. Life is a hell of a thing, and they handled it better than almost everyone.
