The albums Newsted made are incredible!! I can’t imagine him having a hit band like that and then papa The Cowardly Lion said “no , kid. That would hurt our profit” Like he put it in his tell all interview “I was disrespected the most, by the person I admired the most” I think it was a “screw this, I’m done with all of it!” Moment. Realizing he couldn’t keep begging these 2 narcissists ( Lars and Het) for some creative input. It was easier just to create your own band and he did it amazingly. However you don’t know much about it cause Metallica didn’t want you listening to Newsted instead of Metallica in Spotify $$$ it hurts their bottom line 😂😂 He literally shut Newsted down by threatening the label He wouldn’t work with the label anymore if they promoted Newsted!! What an a hole!!! What a baby to throw a temper tantrum like that.

I remember saying how bad are things going in Metallica that this guy who’s dreams came true who not only loved Metallica but looked up to Cliff B and lost it when he heard the news of his death just up and quit his dream job? He never quit because of all the hazing or pranks or when the other three charged everything to his room it was pretty bad but Jason didn’t care but when they clipped his creative wings and forced him into a box and basically told him to just be thankful you’re playing with us no matter what who wouldn’t leave? He made enough money with them to be able to live comfortably for the rest of his life so why not?…to hear how much these guys have grown to look back and say “if Robert suddenly wanted to quit we’d fight for him” and in retrospect they should’ve fought for Jason?…that is some serious growth internally.

I have said pretty much the same on other videos on YT. Cliff would have been as good on backing vocals. He had that same massive growl that Jason later had. Maybe even deeper. But Cliff was so much more laid back (he loved his weed! Lol) Jason was like Cliff on speed. Lol They need him BACK. God, do they ever!!! I like Rob but to me he’ll always be the bassist of Suicidal Tendencies & Infectious Grooves. After that he became a hired hand. He will NEVER be the bassist of Metallica in my eyes. People can pretend all they want and convince themselves that Rob is a full-on member of Metallica - and he actually is on paper, obviously, cause he does get his money - but he doesn’t have that Metallica DNA running through his veins like Jason does - and without a doubt he still to this day. To all the fans who don’t agree, just go watch their Hall of Fame induction. He buried Rob (who sounds so awful I feel bad for him, really) on backing vocals and he still fits the part of Metalica’s bass player to a T than anyone aside from Cliff. Jason was there for so long he is practically on par with Cliff who would have been absolutely appalled at the way Jason was treated by these (at the times) immature fools who, stupidly, let Jason walk away after 14+ years of giving his heart and soul to that band. And, no, they are absolutely NOT the same live band they were when Jason was up there on backing and, at times, lead vocals (giving poor James a much needed rest - something he needs now especially as he’s getting older) but also bringing that unmatched and much needed energy to the band’s live shows which is totally missing now. And trust me, I’ve seen them live 5 times on the Black Album tour: Jason would whip that crowd into such a frenzy. - he WAS / IS the very definition of the lyrics to Whiplash, a song he often sang most of live. Then you have Lars always complaining about things to the effect of “How can I keep going on playing this kind of music at my age?!” (practice Lars! And bring back Newsted!!! He’ll kick you in the ass and give you that energy and inspiration you need - and agreeable, yes man Rob is devoid of) and James has had a nervous breakdown ONSTAGE (and I’m sure many more) telling the crowd he’s feeling “too old”, it’s pathetic and why? Because they don’t have that full-on fourth member and missing piece of the ‘tallica puzzle up there playing his part in the band by bringing that old Newsted-era-Metallica energy to the stage night after night; which Jason can STILL do!!! So again, bring him back and y’know what? It’ll be Metallica once again!!! Cause face it, it has not been Metallica since Jason left. I just hope they realize that sooner than later. That’s my two cents.

In order to not turn into the (as someone above put it) narcissists that overlook you. Be true to yourself, be a good person, fight for positivity, but that doesn't at all mean you have to be a doormat. And when the fight is too much, when negativity is too extreme i come to find that its best to let it be what it is. If it angers you, let it. If you are going to curse up storm.. do it. Process it and let it pass. But this is only for extreme moments where the usual approach gets flipped. And i find that it works and im over it quickly. There is an insane amount of pain and disappointment in their body language as they talk about Jason in this manner. James sums it up in a very deep way. They wanted Cliff. Instead they had this kid who was playing their friends parts. Jason was the "replacement" for Cliff, but there is no replacing him. So these angry little boys have to keep playing music they wrote with their friend who is no longer living. They had to relive so many things over and over everyday for years. And the whole time, there's Jason in a Cliff tee shirt reminding them of what they used to have. Jason saved the band and probably the lives of the other three. They could've wound up broke, and with drug habits. They could have brought in the wrong person, and that guy could've have ruined them...there are so many different ways it could have ended. Jason prevented all of that. He held them together, and let them heal at their own pace. And when he left, it forced them to look at reality and change things before it killed them all.

Lars and James were obviously the initial creative force behind the music but Jason really pushed their idea with whatever control he was given. Sometimes you don't always get full control over bettering something so you gotta accept that your placed where you are with certain buttons and controls and Jason didn't let that slow him down, he went 100% with the buttons he was allowed to push in Metallica. He was pedal to the metal with what little control he had. Of course he tried to push further but never got to escape from that box they'd put him in. Glad to see the guys realize how instrumental Jason was for Metallica. That guy opened the door for me into the metal universe at the 91 MTV music awards. I tuned in to see Poison and stuck around for Metallica. They way he head banged was so unreal and I never seen anything like it. Next thing I know it I’m listening to older Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, PANTERA, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. Thank you Jason! The metal world loves you!!! What would be so cool is if Metallica decided to become a 5-member band and bring Jason back in to play side-by-side with Rob. How could would that be? He’d sure help James get a break with vocals. 🤘🔥🤘

Still not hearing a solid and genuine "sorry" from their mouths for Jason. I suppose I had not appreciated Jason by only listening to Metallica during his years, I thought he was a great bassist and a fine choice for the band, but it wasn’t until I started watching old concert videos with Jason that I was totally blown away at his energy, involvement and his presence on the stage. What other member of Metallica has ever taken over vocals on any of the songs? Jason is the only one I’ve ever seen. And that’s some serious props from a metal god to let someone else in the band shoulder some vocal work and stand aside while Jason holds his own. Yeah, I’m glad they had this chat because Jason is nothing short of a badass.

I have mixed feelings about this. I feel glad that these guys acknowledged how they mistreated Jason, and I’m glad they made amends. I understand “growing up together.” That’s valid. There’s little experience, little guidance… they were young rock stars. On the other hand - I feel so much disappointment that they ran Jason through the gauntlet like this. He was devoted, he was bright, positive, and passionate. These guys really beat the shit out of him, and I’m so pissed off at them for doing this.

James Hetfield gave Jason Newsted an ultimatum. It was about the "Echobrain" band Jason was playing with on the side. Triumphant for Jason, triumphant for Metallica finally realizing what Jason gave for/to them, and triumphant for their legacy because it takes a big person to publicly admit screwing up majorly. I'm glad they managed to be Friends again in the end and also admitted how out of control and angry they were against Jason in those dark times of theres. That whole era was an interesting time for Metallica. Jason was a huge blast of energy that Metallica needed after that whole incident, wish we could've got to see more of what he could've brung heavy wise , more stuff like blackened etc, but I'm glad still for what we got album wise with Jason especially the black album and in justice for all....even if it is barely audible lol. He was such a beast live at concerts for Metallica, most time's seemed like they needed to keep up with Jason lol especially with those amazing backing vocals of his and those powerful AF headbangs 😅 .

I think Cliff is a bit overrated and Jason slightly underrated. Cliff was one of the greatest bass players ever and all, but it's not like you can invent new things forever. I mean, KEA was just a thrash album, RTL was more powerful, because it was faster, MOP was stronger too, but because it was heavy, almost doom metal like. After 3 vastly different masterpieces you can only play the same thing heavier/faster or... Play slower, more mainstream-oriented. Cliff left the world as a legend, but Jason will always be the hero who saved the band, met expectations and lifted the band's legacy. Jason is world class on it's own.
@homerc9101 Жыл бұрын
This is bullshit, there was so much more to explore, even without leaving thrash, cliff wanted to expand to stuff like voivod and coroner and that's without even touching what death metal would become and jazz influenced bands.

This was a great clip. I’ve been such a huge Metallica fan since I was 12 years old. I think the first song I ever heard was sad but true. From that point forward, I just gobbled everything up. It was in the heart of Jason Newstead‘s rein. Having gone through that and the some kind of monster years, it’s so refreshing to see these guys grow to the point where they can appreciate what they had and release the negativity that put them in those uncomfortable situations in which inevitably pushed Jason out of the band. I feel guilty thing, yet, but as much as I like Rob, I wish Jason was still in the band. It’s like his face belongs as part of four. It’s supposed to be.

Well he had the body of the idea for blackened James added to it
@simplebutnotsolongname6642 Жыл бұрын
Jason Recorded all the Bass For those albums, dude. And the only reason he has so little writing credits is because the majority of his stuff that he sent to them at that time was apparently like fast, Thrashy stuff like their earlier work, and Metallica weren’t looking for that at that time. But then you’ll have outliers like My Friend of Misery and Where the Wild Things Are that aren’t that and would be the kind of stuff that Lars and James would pick out from his material. Lars and James are already great on their own at producing stuff, but if they like it enough, they’ll draw in ones from the other band members, though not to simply appease them as band members and take in whatever they got.
@j.kallai43484 ай бұрын
He didn't leave bacause he wanted creative freedom. That's just what Lars is saying. It was a small part of a big problem, they basically made Jason despise Metallica and pushed him to his limits until he decided that he doesn't want to deal with their shit anymore.
