I can't think of anyone better to collaborate with Metallica than Lang Lang as far as choosing a classical pianist to rock with. Lang Lang is so comfortable and never afraid to explore the unknowns. Plus, with his natural showmanship in front of audiences, I think Metallica must have appreciated Lang Lang's presence along with them. It was an eventful collaboration.

if you are metallica, and you have played this song thousands of times normally live over a nearly 30 year period, ( expect for the 1 off S & M conert) you are entitled to have some fun with a remixed live version with a special guest, to help freshen the original song up so you dont get bored and keep it fresh and interesting, this is why i love Metallica, they dont give a fuck about breaking the rules with experimenting with their musical sounds, you dont have to like it, but you will respect it

I feel the same way. I think the piano adds a more ominous tone to the already dark nature of the song, despite the fact that it seems very improvised from Lang Lang. I like this a lot.
@xXGamingFactorXx6 жыл бұрын
The piano definintely adds a thicker texture to the song but there are some points where you can tell he's just improv and it sounds god awful but when he plays along with the song it certainly isn't bad, and the octave jumps are enjoyable.

biff supreme Metal has no roots in classical music. They may be similar in a couple of aspects but metal is just harder heavier rock, which originated from afro-american music. In any case its obvious the piano doesnt fit, its a solo instrument and doesnt blend into the melody with the other instruments. I dont think its lang lang's fault, it was probably just a stunt, reminiscent of the collaborative album we don't talk about....

julien astier Ever listened to Diamond Head before? Metal has close associations with classical. Thrash isn't the entirety of metal.
@SynphamyMusic7 жыл бұрын
All music has 'roots' in classical. It's a bit of a weak association though, just because Malmsteen and the like play very classical inspired music it doesn't mean metal is particularly influenced by classical. Most people pick up guitars because of bands like metallica, Metallica picked up guitars because of bands like Motorhead and so on. Just because you play guitar it doesn't mean Mozart is suddenly one of your musical ancestors.

Lang Lang playing in a concert with Metallica is something I’d never thought I would ever see! But, if anyone else is familiar with his skilll, likes him, and can appreciate how talented a pianist he is, in this case he’s playing more as an ‘entertainer’ than usual. I wish most (except for the brief solo) of the sound of Metallica didn’t ‘drown out’ portions of the piano!! He did a few great performances with the 2CELLOS and the 3 of them were able to be heard equally (1 was ‘Live and Let Die’ at the London Palladium about 6 years ago), and that’s what I was hoping to see in this one. Oh well, I still enjoy it. (BTW - I’m 67 years old!)

So true! Maybe in a way it’s the reason why there are so many negative and hateful comments on this video in general, Lang Lang, and the fact that he almost single-handedly ‘ruined’ this piece with Metallica! I think it’s bc those who wrote such remarks are NOT ABLE to recognize what ‘real’ talent and music is! Perhaps they’re just stuck in a rut, or can’t open their eyes to something new and different, like this!? Music is a personal choice and preference, and there is something that can ‘speak’ to everyone - for those who dislike this one so much, all they need to do is find the ones that do, that is unless they’re too lazy and narrow minded to take the time! I ❤ Lang Lang, and as a pianist myself for more than 60 years, consider him as one of the best ones there are - 👍 to him!

Erik Jonsson i never meant that he was bad just that it is just a bit sad that such a legend of a band in the metal history is getting old and closer to the end of it

Creo que primero debes investigar a Lang Lang... lo que si es que siendo esta la segunda vez que los *acompana me sigue sonando como fuera de estilo, me gustaria escuchar una version en acustico.

Fuck, piano over the sounds of guns in the intro is a great addition. I honestly would love to see more content like this. Loved it when Jack Black sang "one", loved Miley and Metallica together and loved Lady Gaga's voice with Metallica's as well. When done right, other artists complement metal music.

Really enjoyed this one. Playing the song half a step down really proud out James's voice a lot more to hit that beautiful tone he harbours. Kirk did pretty well on the solos too. The piano aspect was a great addition,and that little solo in the middle filled with diminished runs added to the darkness of the song itself. Cool stuff Metallica.

Lars - Way better James - Way better Rob - KILLING IT LIKE ALWAYS Kirk - What happened to him man ? i heard he can be insecure at time but does it really affect his playing like this ? i really don't want metallica to end, atleast till' i see them live .
@midenking96517 жыл бұрын
Ktuulu the piano is really distracting. Even as a guitarist myself trying to play the solo over that would fuck with me so much.

@midenking96517 жыл бұрын
Ktuulu the guys are touring, tired, they ain't young anymore. Only human. Sometimes you just can't get into it or hands play up... Let alone that annoying piano
