Outlaw Torn is my favourite Jason Newstead bassline
@gilassp3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I wonder if he actually contributed much to Load/Reload basslines. When I checked out the demos (Overload / Mucho demo / Fan Can 3) where James did all the guitars and bass apparently, I was surprised how similar the basslines were to the final versions. Where the Wild Things Are is great though, a song they based on a couple of his riffs.
@Kruegernator123 Жыл бұрын
@@gilassp I bet Jason had more input than we think. For Metallica's criteria, contributing bass lines somehow does not constitute as "songwriting" credits in their eyes. Although an unrelated topic, that might be why Dave Mustaine had massive issues with writing credits during his tenure in Metallica.
@gilassp Жыл бұрын
@@Kruegernator123 Yeah, I guess they credit usually for the use of the riff(s). All 3 Metallica songs that have Newsted credited (Blackened, My Friend of Misery, Where the Wild Things Are) are based on one or more riffs that he came up with. Same for Hammett getting credit for Creeping Death for that "die by my hand" section riff, etc. As for bass lines, I remember either Jason or Bob Rock interviews where either one or even both of them said that they worked on actually simplifying, or rather, "streamlining" the bass guitar parts in order for them to work more with the drums.
@mattdad8429 Жыл бұрын
James wrote that and like 95% of Load/Reload, but I get what you're saying. Honestly those albums were essentially a solo project if you think about it.
@mattdad8429 Жыл бұрын
@@Kruegernator123 What'd it end up being like 2-3 writing credits in 14 years? Sad. AND he was the main songwriter in Flotsam & Jetsom? Something don't add up.
@mattdad8429 Жыл бұрын
If I didn't know any better I'd think it was Jason playing. And I love how you melded Torn and Fixxxer as I've always thought they could have been brothers; or a continuation of the same story in a lot of ways.

Two of the most underrated Metallica songs played beautifully on a Sadowsky bass. You really don't get much better than that. You have a great gift, Kello. Thank you for sharing it with us. Two things that I would love to hear and see 1) Kello & Delta Empire getting together for a collaboration/jam session 2) Where the Wild Things Are. Another underrated gem from the re-load album. Keep doing what you do, boss man. Much respect from Las Vegas.
