I love that you focused on the epic music first, and the message 2nd. That's the way to do it. First you experience the musical phenomenon they produced, then you consider the subject and message. This song is my childhood favorite, and at age 7, I had no clue what it was about. I learned that at... Age 9? 10? 11? Something like that. And this really is a song to rock out to, or to push you at the gym. The message is to me, set apart. (Edited: Holy shit how tired was I when I wrote that last part xD).

Trio Intro song: "To live is to die" (from album ...And Justice For All) only once performed live in memory of Cliff Burton / bass guitarist (RIP), song written/inspired by him before road accident death. They did not perform this song ever due to loss the band had and emotional connection / memories song brought up on Cliff (a man/musician who brought foundation in theory/harmony/structure to the band). Other song that bare his composing style signature: Anesthesia pulling teeth, The Call of Ktulu and Orion.

"Master of Puppets" is about drug abuse. There are allusions to heroin (sucking darkest clear / needlework away) and cocaine (chop your breakfast on a mirror). In the middle, the calls for the Master fade away as the drugs kick in, and on comes the mellow part as the user is experiencing the bliss of the drugs. Then slowly, the effects start to wear off, and the yearning for the drug becomes even greater. Most of the song is presented from the drug's point of view, how it's trying to lure you in. After the epic middle solo, the song switches to the user's point of view, asking where the dreams are that the drugs promised. needing its fix (Fix Me!). The drug then answers it's worth the sacrifice as it revels in snaring another victim (I will run through you, now I rule you too).

For those who aren't very familiar with Metallica, the intro is not actually part of the song "Master of Puppets," but is another song from the album "And Justice For All" which followed "Master of puppets." The song is called "To Live is to Die" and is an instrumental dedicated to Cliff Burton, their Bassist who had died 3 years prior, and consisted of riffs written by Burton that hadn't been incorporated into songs yet.
