Earvin Batitang All of us string players wish to play metal. We don’t get much of a chance and when a few people do they sell out or run out of steam. Eg. Apocalyptica and 2Cellos for selling out, a DC band called Primitivity, and Greg Kornulik, who both have done Metallica covers but stopped posting new content for a long time.

This makes me so happy every time I watch it. You know never ever ever gets the spotlight? The bass viol. Never the spotlight, never the packed house of screaming fans, never the duet with an idol. That dude is all of us, and it just makes it feel so damn triumphant. I want everyone to be that man for one night in their life. At least I want to feel that, just once. Watching it happen to him makes me feel so damn good. And, of course, completely nailed it. Just a goddam perfect performance.
@matthewv7893 жыл бұрын
Yes truly. There are some phenomenal double bass soloists (Mikyung Sung for one) who get basically zero attention and rarely ever get the chance to perform solos with orchestras, let alone for an audience of millions. Scott did a great job, and this opportunity did a great service to awareness of the instrument. (Even if, being amplified, it sounds kind of janky compared to the beauty and range of colors and expression a natural double bass is capable of.)

I have to admit, as a cellist, that this solo was perfect note for note to the original. It’s also the first time they ever let bowed instruments with THAT much distortion (Apocalyptica eat ya hearts out!) on stage, and my god you can tell they loved it! Also to note this version of the solo destroys Rob Scallon’s version with upright bass, which was the only form of this solo on KZbin for the instrument. You got my complete and utter respect as a cellist who is still experimenting with those levels of distortion. I still think Cello would make a nice rhythm guitar to a violin Bass’s bass.

When the distortion kicked on, it was SO AWESOME!!! When he started playing the solo it was insane. And we were too far away to see Lars sneaking onto the set, so when I heard the hi hat count in the rest of the solo, I couldn’t believe he was going to plow right through the rest of the solo. It was THE moment of the night. Nothing topped it. Most special thing I’ve ever seen at a Metallica show
