So good! Had to listen twice. I have been on the hunt for a g12-65 speaker. Hard to find a vintage one for a reasonable price. Also I like your use of the compressor in the loop! You should give the new Two Notes Genome plugin a try. Included with the “codex” effect block is AI profiles. There is a Mark IIcp, jcm800 and others included. I am sure you could come up with glorious tones with this plugin. You should get a copy for free as a captor X owner.

I think the compression on the album comes from a Jose Arredondo style diode clipping mod on the 800 they were using. This has been theorized for a long time but recently in Rick Beato's interview with Kirk Hammett, Kirk confirmed that the first two albums were modded Marshalls, although he didn't specify the mods. Having listened to what the Jose diode clipping sounds like though, that's what it sounds like to me.

I've done more tone chasing after their early tones than is probably normal or healthy lol, but through my research it seems that the most popular mods for an 800 were the Jake E Lee mods, where they just swapped out some different value capacitors and resistors, and the Jose diode clipping switch, which was sometimes engaged with a push/pull volume pot and sometimes put on a toggle switch inserted after the 2nd cathode follower, but right before the tone stack. Jason at headfirst has great videos detailing both of these mods.

I thought they used James "mythical" Super Distortion that was worked on by the same guy who hot rodded Eddie Van Halen's amp using a variac dimmer switch with the tubes Jose Arrondondo im sure i spelled his name wrong lol but maybe that was only used on the "Kill Em All" album and might of got stolen

i dont know if you ever heard this band called warbringer, they are popular in my area and the tone on weapons of tomorrow is baddest guitar tone i have ever heard in my life! i would love it if someone could recreate that tone. they been around a while but no one cares to recreate there guitar tone for some reason... There is video on youtube where a guy gets close accidently by blending a 6505 with a marshall dsl through a boss sd1 and the tone is heavy as hell but still not quite the same.

I'm looking at getting my first real tube amp and I'm torn between a Mark V 25 and the Kraken. Since you have both, which one is the best to achieve the classic thrash and groove sound? If you asked me the same question a few months back I would’ve said to get the Mesa hands down. The boogie is good and has great tone however I find it lacks punch and you spend more time dialing it in than any other amp. The Kraken has great tone and hits like a truck. It’s really simple to dial and works with pedals and eq’s really well. I really don’t want to say as the boogie was a dream amp for me ever since I heard Puppets but the Kraken hits harder and sounds better through the whole range. It’s actually hard to get a bad tone from it. Hope that helps, they’re my honest thoughts. Kraken for me👌🏻
