I love 80's Metallica, but the more I listen to St'Anger, the more I accept it as a good album Not as good as the oldies, OK, but it still got some awesome riffs, a creative and really expressive work on drums (let's get past the whole snare meme shit, a'right?), and a sincere attempt of a 40 years old Hetfield to find a vocal personality which expresses the same themes they explored at the classic albums - sadness, violence, energy, confusion, perplexity, madness and, obviously, anger I mean, after St'Anger it seems like the band lost their bite, and although these records sound better overall, they lack that dramatic powerhouse of a sound they had from Kill'em All to the black album. St'Anger at least tries to bring it all back, and since they were 20 years older and didn't want to become a cover band of themselves (like Iron Maiden does, for example) they tried something new, and this is the result: one of the best albums from the 2000's, but a bad one in the context of Metallica's discography, which tells us more about how great the band is, than about St'Anger itself.
