I think Newstead was probably the only decent bloke out of the 4. Kirk seems okay but Jason always seemed to me to be the most humble and down to earth. Great bassist as well. Kind of bloke you could go for a beer with. Lars always struck me as being a bit of a cunt.

7:37 - 7:43, all he did was strum each string individually with the same chords and it added a whole dimension to the harmony and melody of the song. Too bad they didn't keep that, it was a really great idea. Plus that clean sound is just legendary, stuff that's meant to be played in front of tens of thousands in a stadium.

Metallica before AJFA doesn't have a lot of great riffs or anything really, aside from some great harmonies and barked vocals. The good songs on Kill Em All are all Mustaine's. Ride The Lightning is 100% Cliff doing the hard work. MoP and AJFA are 100% legendary, there's no question there. But Metallica peaked both live and in studio under the wings of Bob Rock. Before that they were just four alcoholics who played really fast and loud.

The fact that they would take a razor blade and hand cut tapes and splice them together to edit is just mind boggling. Such a talent at the time and is completely obsolete now.

I know the song gets a lot of hate, but I have always loved it. Don't really care what the haters say. I consider Nothing Else Matters to be one of Metallica's best. Hell, I like it so much I want it played at my funeral.
