@@emilwerstler4356 It's confirmed to be about Cliff. The whole smashing the clock line was an event that actually happened. James smashed an alarm clock the night it happened and threw it through a hotel window. Dyer's Eve and Harvester of Sorrow are about his father.

He started training with a vocal coach at some point, I can't remember exactly when, but I saw it in a Metallica documentary video. His range and that raspy growl is still there, but now he can be softer and much more polished and controlled with his vocals. The transformation in him is just OUTSTANDING. Until It Sleeps, The Unforgiven 1, 2 and 3, Nothing Else Matters are just a few examples of the evolution of his vocals. Most of the time when he sings these songs that I've heard probably hundreds of times, I get goosebumps, and that ain't no foolin.
