You have to understand that every hard beating of the drums is a Reciprotation of the mental stae and emotions of character at that moment in the song so there are no mistakes whatsoever every hard or fast beating of the drums is 100% designed for not just all of their songs but the characters in the songs...that is why Metallica is the GOAT of a Symphony Metal Band...they literally are their own Symphony already by their self 😎 🤘

Load got so much hate because it wasn't like the older albums. If you separate the preconceptions about Metallica from this album and just listen to it for what it is, it's actually quite good. There's some really good songs on Load and, to a lesser extent, Reload.
@jw114325 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree that Load/Reload got hate due to its departure from their signature sound. I was fortunate enough to have been introduced to Metallica shortly after Reload came out, specifically with the song Fuel. I gorged on Reload, as it was my first Metallica album, listening to it over and over, loving each track (with exception to Low Mans Lyric, at the time). So I would say each are synonymous in terms of song quality, but that's just my opinion.

Hetfield is an interesting singer, and a reluctant one, he never really wanted be a vocalist at the beginning of Metallica but has developed and improved his singing ability from just yelling and screaming to what you see now, he may not the best technical singer but hes a very expressive one. Yay!!!! Thanks for reacting to my request! It is really cool to hear what you think about James Hetfield as a singer, because he has really never considered himself a singer. He has referred to himself as a guitar player who sings because they needed a singer. As other people in the comments have mentioned, he blew out his vocal cords while recording the Black Album in the early 90's, and ended up getting a vocal coach and a warm up routine that he still uses before shows. The conductor, Michael Kamen (RIP), provided some strings for a Metallica song called Nothing Else Matters and then they approached him about doing a whole show with the San Francisco Symphony. They are actually repeating this concert this year on September 5th to celebrate 20 years since the original S&M concert. This concert is incredible, I think there are a lot of other songs from it that you would enjoy, if you ever have the time.

This was one big suprise to come home from work to! It's fun to see how you comment on all aspects of the music, not just the vocals, event hough you're a vocal coach. Instruments enhance the vocals and vice versa. Plus you don't use fancy terms for everything. It's easy to understad what you mean.

always loved this song. been a fan of theirs since before beth was born! (87-88 that is!) This is a massively underrated song from a more... experimental period.. of their time. But this period yielded some great songs, carpe diem baby is another great one. Cue the haters and the people who consider themselves real fans while only liking a fraction of their discography. You can all go stick it. they aren't real fans, they are people that like a couple of songs of a band. this review was on point and an excellent choice for a song of metallicas that did cover a significant breadth of their repertoire. Thanks!

So many Metallica songs to pick, so many classics, and they go with this deep cut/hidden gem of a song. Absolutely epic and interesting choice. This song proves that Metallica didn't fall off after the 80s. They just grew as artists.

James is obviously magneficent here, but Jason's backing vocals around 7:58 onwards always bring a smile to my face. You can hear the passion in the dude's voice, and you can see it on his face.

No-one is ever going to call Hetfield a technically great singer, but he has charisma and a unique delivery that a lot of vocalists still try to imitate, but can never match.
@oneclipleft3 жыл бұрын
I love the advice you give about thinking what your voice would naturally do in response to an emotion. I never really thought about it that way, and it seems it can give a vocal performance a very emotional impact without the singer feeling the emotion at the time. Almost like how an actor or actress does it with facial expressions. Very cool.

I never thought I would see a vocal coach get so excited about a James Hetfield performance while breaking it down and explaining it so thoughtfully. Consider me impressed, Beth.

The first time I saw them, in '99 at the old Wembley Stadium, they played this song. It was an epic moment, for sure. I'm old-school Metallica fan (first 4 albums) and not really into Load or Reload, but The Outlaw Torn is certainly a highlight of either album and was a live favorite for many.
