I was also 100% sure that Judson would like this one. I think it's brilliant. So monotonous, but that's all it takes here. The song surrounds me with its weird mood like no other on the record. In the long palm mutes you can hear the whole song. But I can also switch over for a moment and let my brain say, hey listen, these are just a few notes, but then I can watch myself get back into the mood of the song. Not so with Judson, it literally passed him by.

I adore this piece. There's a reason why they wrote it in this fashion. Cosmic Horror is ultimately about we breaking ourselves, because we cannot handle the sheer information we get about the rest of the universe. It's like pouring 580 litres into a pitcher, that only holds 1 litre. It results in actual madness and many times suicide, because the cognitive dissonance is too great and cannot be solved. How insignificant we are to nature itself and the cosmos. We only matter to ourselves. This is probably why they wrote it in this way. In order to grasp this, one ought to grasp what Cosmic Horror is genuinely about. Your opinion is valid, just wanted to throw this in here.

To me and probably a lot of other fans The song was the monster. A machine. Mean, consistent, and unstoppable. Remember when people listened to full albums? This was a character on the MOP movie. As i got older and would jam to the album, it did seem to go a little long. I thought Judson would like the subject matter too because of the way he talks about creative writing.
@Gerald9502 ай бұрын
Yes, the chord changes are weird. Becaue the theme is weird. A good song builds a athmosphere, which relates to the topic. Its totally acceptable that we dont like a song. But i think its important that we keep the context, in which the song embraces, in mind. You have to show him One or Moth into Flame, The End of the Line, Lords of Summer or Confusion. Those songs are heavy and also very musical!

Something to know about Lovecraft's concepts in many of his works revolves around madness and many times references the fallen city that is build with non-Euclidian geometry meaning it is disjointed doesn't follow standard formula...which I feel is well conveyed by the writing of this song.

This track is great if you're into the lovecraftian stories, the chugginess and methodical character of it perfectly paints the image of the big ol' monster waking under the sea, ready to wreak havoc. But I can see how not-interesting it might be for someone who's not familiar with lovecraftian horror.

And this is why it’s such a great album, because all the songs have a meaning and taking them alone is reducing the impact. My fifty cents thought about it 😇 looking at Judson’s face at the middle of song, it was obvious that he got bored at some point. Keep up the good work !!!

14:16 I believe Judson is mostly right about this one. Funny thing is that Kirk recently said this song was written as a last song on the album and they rushed it. Kirk had to go to the airport or somewhere I dont remember but he said in the interview he had 30 minutes to write a solo. so I would agree they didn't put much effort into this one.
Metallica with Cliff is just another band than we got after that.... Justice was ok/fantstic but after then the soul was lost. What do people want on concerts today??? The Cliff era!

I remember hearing metallica for the first time, passing through the smoking section at high school. Hacky sack game in play and this ripper...Am I Evil...shredding the background. "Who is that?" Metallica someone answered. And so began my parental disdained approval of thrash metal. I will admit, the thing that should not be, was skipped quite often to get to a more desired song for my thrash metal high. Still a good song imo especially after I saw it played live.
