The way Lars played the drums during those years was so dynamic and animated. His head bobbling around, i remember being a kid and watching this concert, and thinking how fucking badass he looked behind that kit.

Many (lightyears better) drummers say Lars was at some point their inspiration. Might not be a good drummer, but man he did make an impact and opened doors for many.
@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. While he's never going to win a drumming contest against someone like Lombardo, you've got to remember that Lars constructed (ie arranged) all the songs and he was an absolute master at that, so he basically arranged the songs in the way that he, the drummer, wanted. And I think that's a big part behind the band's success. His drum parts might not be the best but they are fun!

one thing I'll never understand: why is it that certain "metal heads" will never give props to the black album for probably being millions of future "metal heads" first introduction to real metal?
@Egonzal3169 жыл бұрын
Because they are close minded and think if a later album doesn't sound like their first album, it automatically means they are sell outs.
@RuffisInc8 жыл бұрын
+Elias Gonzalez not sounding like Kill Em All would be a good thing. The album wasn't actually that great and the production was fucking awful. The "TRUE" Metallica fans don't like this album because you can actually hear bass playing that isn't Cliff Burton and the timings are more conventional. Other than that, it's a heavy metal album through and through with the exception of nothing else matters

gumbi8989 i feel like its bc of the drugs or alcohol idk bro
@Eris_Norregard4 жыл бұрын
@@noirjakey He didn't do any other drug than alcohol. But he was a really heavy drinker, so that must've done a lot of damage. That, and he'd been using improper vocal techniques - he only took pro lessons during TBA tour when he started losing his voice, before that, he'd just go as hard as he could, paying no mind to the fact he was damaging his vocal cords with that. You can hear it in basically every song in Seattle 89 show, those ultra harsh vocals. It sounds badass as fuck, but in long term game it's unsustainable.
@rand0me4 жыл бұрын

i believe he's referring to the song's ending 'jam' when recording, they knew this song was going to be 'arena rock' ...so at the end they tailed on a solo that they could just roll with, took kirk 2 or 3 takes in the studio. this specific one (they never do it note for note from album) both runs longer and rocks the **** out harder than any other live performance i have seen *best* in metal history, maybe not. but 20+ years later i still get a chill watching this

I have to say, that i hated this album when it first came out (being a hardcore Metallica fan at the time and all that), as it sounded too soft for my ears. If you ask me now, i think that the "Black Album" is the "Machine Head" of our time and "Enter Sandman" should be compared to "Smoke On The Water" hands down. As i am in my mid 40s i don't think i will live to see a more influential album than that. Metallica sure made a masterpiece and earned their place among the legends.
