Whiskey in the Jar is an old Irish folk song too, that’s why they’re all over it. I put this version on a jukebox in a bar at a family gathering and my 80 year old (at the time) Irish Nan chucked her stuck away and was up on the floor going nuts.

This was my 6th time seeing the boys since my first show here in Ireland back in 2009, it MAY be the best one so far. 75000 Metallica fans in one place was a dream come true. The sun started to shine just before the boys came on stage and it was an incredible evening. Being there watching this was deafening. Cannot wait to see the lads another 6 times!

This is an old Irish folk song but this is a cover of the Thin Lizzy version. So you could say this is a cover of a cover. Slane Castle is a famous venue for live concerts. RHCP filmed a live DVD here.

I am from Ireland and i was at this concert, lucky enough to get just in front of the main stage. Yes that is Slane Castle you saw in the background. Its a concert held every year in that amazing venue. Everyone from Foo Fighters, Guns & Roses, U2, Thin Lizzy and many many more....

Slane co meath Ireland I live 10 minutes from this venue yes it's a castle guys a beautiful place, the weather that day wasent great but it didnt dampen any spirits that show was one if the best that's ever being there. I saw them late that month literally about a 15 minute walk away in 2019 in Twickenham, they were fantastic, unfortunately also around this time James was heavily addicted to alcohol again and 3 months later went into rehab after the S&M2 concert, which still remains their last live performance since covid began. They'll be back better than ever, James looks great again, lost that beer gut

The original is an old irish folksong. If you look at their music instruments you'll notice that they have the colours green, white and orange. Nice touch of them performing in colours of the irish flag on this gig in Ireland.

Singing Whisky in a Jar in Ireland is differently flirting with the audience. That song is like an anthem there. It´s like when Metallica played a song called Staten & kapitalet (by an old Swedish punk band called Ebba Grön) in Swedish. The audience loved it, even the guards sang when they played it. James admitted of course he didn´t understood a word of the text. But it worked. There is a YT clip of it.

I was there. Crowd noise has been boosted a bit.,Great day though. Stiff Little Fingers were one of the support bands and the taught Green Day everything they know. Metallica were brilliant too and on top form. Great reaction.

I wouldn´t put it that way "Ireland loves Metallica" Instead It would be if Metallica plays Ireland's national anthem "Whiskey in the Jar". Of course, the audience sing as loud as they can. But I think Thin Lizzy´s version of Whiskey in the Jar is better. But that´s my opinion, have seen Lizzy live many times performing this and other songs by them.
