I was listening to offspring back in 1994, suddenly my big bro entered the room and forced me to stop and put this casset into the radio. Next, he pressed the play button. A song started to play. I was shocked, what kind of music is this? Start with a slow tempo suddenly it turns into heavy verse. then the chorus kicks in. The chorus part stuck in my head. It changed my life completely. I beg my parents to buy me a guitar because of that song. That song was "The Unforgiven". Now I'm almost 35 and counting.... back in 1994, a metalhead was born.

I still cannot listen to this song without this unbearable sadness in my heart. This was my brother’s favorite song and he joked one time that this is what he wanted for his funeral. He passed away few months ago and we played this song during the tribute. This song brings back so many memories of him playing the guitar at midnight on weekends.

Anyone who has played electric guitar long enough will notice he makes an awful lot of mistakes in this video when he plays the solo. His solos are still some of the most iconic in metal history, and he was a great guitarist in the 80's, but that's pretty much gone nowadays.
Lyrics New blood joins this earth And, quickly, he's subdued Through constant pained disgrace The young boy learns their rules With time, the child draws in This whipping boy done wrong Deprived of all his thoughts The young man struggles on and on, he's known A vow unto his own That never from this day His will they'll take away What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee Unforgiven They dedicate their lives To running all of his He tries to please them all This bitter man he is Throughout his life the same He's battled constantly This fight he cannot win A tired man, they see no longer cares The old man then prepares To die regretfully That old man here is me What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee Unforgiven What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee Unforgiven Never free Never me So I dub thee Unforgiven You labeled me I'll label you So I dub thee Unforgiven Never free Never me So I dub thee Unforgiven You labeled me I'll label you So I dub thee Unforgiven

New blood joins this earth And quickly he's subdued Through constant pained disgrace The young boy learns their rules With time the child draws in This whipping boy done wrong Deprived of all his thoughts The young man struggles on and on he's known A vow unto his own That never from this day His will they'll take away What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven They dedicate their lives To running all of his He tries to please them all This bitter man he is Throughout his life the same He's battled constantly This fight he cannot win A tired man they see no longer cares The old man then prepares To die regretfully That old man here is me What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven You labeled me I'll label you So I dub thee unforgiven Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven You labeled me I'll label you So I dub thee unforgiven
