I feel like there's a 90s/00s indie rock revival going on in metal via the blackgaze and postmetal movements. It's fascinating because much of it sounds like the edgier, more obscure indie stuff from back in the day. WEEN, MEDICINE, FUDGETUNNEL, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, DINOSAUR JR, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, FISHBONE, L7, BIKINI KILL(& many many others) all taking on new relevance as metal influences. Sadly, still no one seems to care about MORPHINE.

But I genuinely enjoy 80% of that album. Atum though… I mean it has some great songs, and you mentioned several. Unfortunately, half the album was filled with garbage songs that wasted my time. And some of the intros ruined what otherwise would have been a great tune. A good example is the song INTERGALACTIC. The first 3+ minutes are garbage. Nobody mentions Beyond the Vale. I thought it was enjoyable and the guitars reminded me a bit of Queen.

Similar to Tremches’ experience with that album, I was (18-ish) when it was coming out and psyched for a new SP album- while I didn’t hate it, I was pretty much stuck with a sobering reality of the long-awaited album being a mostly “just okay” release with a couple of a little bit better tracks.
