In solidarity with the Ukrainian people and against the war in general.

Leningrad (since 1991 Saint Petersburg) has remained in the historical memory because of the siege of the city during the Second World War, when about 1.1 million inhabitants of the city lost their lives, the majority by starvation.
The US-American Billy Joel wrote "Leningrad" after he met the Russian clown Victor, while touring the Soviet Union in 1987. The song picks up sections from the lives of the two people, who come from culturally and politically different worlds. On the one hand, it describes the events from the Cold War and other conflicts between the superpowers of the time, the USA and the USSR, and on the other hand, it highlights the similarities and individual human fates. At the end of the song, a friendly, reconciliatory conclusion is found.
Before Ukraine became independent in 1991, it was part of the Soviet Union. Ukrainians are considered by many Russians as "fraternal people".
On February 24, 2022, Russia began an invasion of the country in violation of international law. This war is hitting the civilian population particularly hard. The pictures of bombed living areas and of Ukrainian civilians in shelters went around the world.
We hope that Russia will cease hostilities and withdraw from Ukraine. And we hope there can be lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia, as well as between Russia and the West.
