Director is actually probably most famous for writing and playing killers in both "Anthropophagus" and it's semi sequel "Absurd". Anyway, there's a similar equally silly horror flick which seems to share some same stock footage and locations with this one. It's called "Primal Rage" and if I remember right, it was directed by Umberto Lenzi (under different name).

They're keeping a guy alive with his heart outside his body, and they've got it in an empty spaghetti jar with no lid hanging by plastic hoses with nothing running through them - you'd think there would be blood circulating. No wonder they want to pull his funding. Also - the heart has a stealth vagina? Perhaps the SFX crew had their research funding pulled too. And...this is my favorite episode ever. This movie deserves a full MST3K if there isn't one.
