Just did an oil change on my 3000 and it was a little different. Mine has a spout under the filter and didn’t have a spring, maybe it was lost over the years. By the way, $35 for a wrench isn’t to bad. I make my living with hand tools and a set of quality wrenches can easily cost over $300.

Your comment reminds me that it's time to change the oil for the season! Every time I use that big old wrench, I feel it pays for itself. :)

Buy a ford 5000 oil filter adaptor bracket that you will lock over the existing filter assembly on the engine block and you will be using the normal oil filters that you just screw in using your hand. i changed mine coz i could not stand oil leaks when the tractor us running difficult jobs. one time my engine almost ran dry as oil was leaking badly

@@metaspencer oh yes. i was assisted by an sales person in a company where i buy spare parts known as Bepco Kenya Ltd. i was so relieved. im in Nairobi Kenya. i wish all tractor owners had an opportunity to meet. we have alot to learn from each other. its feels great you got the adaptor. all your problems are solved. you dont need to think about oil leaks.

Also a way of not spilling oil everywhere when you take of the housing in putting a plastic bag under it

You spent $35 on one wrench you can buy a set for around 20-40$ depending on size

if i remember right there was a adapter available for these old oilfilter housings ! After installing the adapter you had a std. oil filter connection thread and every later Ford filter fits !! Much less oil spread but africans loved these old versions more becasue sometimes they had NOTHING at all and when the filter was so dirty they put them all out and drive on... hell yeah these Fords were robust like a rock. search for this adapter its worth itt !! WELL i found it fior you ...... kzbin.info/www/bejne/foXYhpyBn5V-Y80 Was in the late 80´s when i worked as a Ford mechanic here in germany.

Ya know besides the mess with the oil filter and need of a long funnel the Ford 3000 is easier to change oil in than my car.

Can you please tell me what oil did you put in your old traktor?
@metaspencer
@metaspencer 5 жыл бұрын
From what I've heard, it depends on the temperatures you'll be running the tractor in. For instance, the oil should be SAE 5W when running in conditions below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, SAE 10W for 10 to 40 degrees, SAE 20W for temperatures from 32 degrees to 90 degrees. With all that said, I think I put in 10W 30 ... the guys at your auto parts store should be able to look up your tractor engine in their books or computer. Mine is a gas engine, by the way

I've heard that you can capture the oil by taping a plastic bag under the filter ... I guess that would work, but I haven't tried it yet. Good luck!
