Three years ago my wife was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. She completely changed her diet and gradually lost about 100 lbs.She took Metformin 500mg and followed the exact recommended dosage.By testing her blood twice a day and keeping a log book certain foods were eliminated.Last year our family doctor told her if her blood tests stayed the same for 1 year she could stop using Metformin 500mg.Her last test in early August 2018,came through as normal, and Metformin 500mg was stopped. It was then that the side effects for her became glaringly obvious. The thick callouses on her feet just fell off,the skin between her toes stopped peeling and her dry mouth from no saliva returned to normal.

Really helpful. Thanks for doing this. One thing I've learned is that we have to be proactive, and it really helps to have some helpful information so that we can talk to our physicians with at least some bit of knowledge. Again thanks!

I was on this for 4 years.Did some research & talked with Dr. I trusted. First thing he said is to get as much of processed white flour out of diet. No fruit juice, eat whole fruit instead! I am now off the drug & have low A1C. Just know your own system. Some need the help.

Did not take the Metformin. I just lost 50 pounds, began a sugar free, low sodium, low but good fats and more veggies than I could ever believe diet. Only fish aand poultry. This straightened out diabetes, all numbers are good. Exercise too. Feel great. I hope this stay the way it is. I have maintained for a year.

I had a serious issue with Metformin. 18 months ago I spent 4 days in ICU due to extremely low BP (60/40), caused by dehydration. I don't have a colon (full colectomy 10 years ago) so most of my fluids expel anally. I had an episode where I was getting extremely thirsty, so I drank more water. Without a colon I was not recirculating electrolytes or harmones and the water flushed out what little I had. The emergency staff told me that Metformin exacerbates water loss. My doctor subsequently had me stop taking it. Recently I engaged in a long fast and now do intermittent fasting on a keto diet. My blood sugar went from a high of 412 a month ago and average of 222 over the last 3 months to an average of 139 within the last week. I'm 71yo and intend to stick around.

I find a if you eat meat for 2 weeks just meat you can eat bacon grease eat bacon chicken BBQ ribs but don't put sugar on the barbecue ribs for two weeks what it does is take away the desire for carbohydrates then after 2 weeks start incorporating vegetable leafy vegetables no beans no rice no potatoes none of that stop by and ice cream at the store start making your own cookies get you a recipe book a ketogenic diet keto recipe book start making your own ice cream your own cookies on cakes and cream cheese Philadelphia cheesecake you can have a all the Philadelphia cream cheese in the house that you can get start using butter don't use margarine use olive oil coconut oil and what's the other kind of oil I forget right now olive oil or coconut oil into one more you can use and butter I like kerrygold butter suspensive but it's got a good taste but I love that anytime you feel hungry slice off a little butter put it in your mouth and eat it coffee I do not use sugar in coffee I have my coffee with me some three packs of butter some Himalayan salt and I'm good to go I'll put it in the blender beat it up and I drank it Himalayan salt is good but carbohydrates leave it alone now I've been on the keto diet 4 year and 8 months so I can eat something like a little carbohydrate but like I like sweet potatoes but I have it what once every three months of small when baked with butter on it cuz when you put the butter on it trying to keep the carbohydrate balance and by your nuts not process but wrong nuts and eat them you can eat nuts Brazil nuts and has a lot of magnesium in it your English walnuts come and eat it if you choose not to good put them in your blender and blend it up put it in the freezer every so often go get you a teaspoon for and eat it you can eat you can have sour cream you can have cream cheese you can make your ice cream with your whole cream beat up your egg in the milk put it on the oven slow heat low heat stop putting in all ingredients and cook it that mean you be cooking an egg so you won't get salmonella and then put it aside let it cool off and then you put it in and you're in your freezer you can shake it up go to the freezer shake it up and keep doing that or you can get your ice cream maker but ice cream is easy to make so easy and you don't need you don't need rice you can quinoa quinoa and you can even make quinoa and turkey dress it is so many things you can do with quinoa so I would say going to Quito yeah. For 2 weeks you should just eat meat and that'll make your body go into like not a shock and don't eat three meals a day is eating anytime you get ready to eat eat you some meat with the fatI find the if you eat meat for two weeks just meet you can eat bacon grease eat bacon chicken know barbecue ribs but don't push sugar on the barbecue ribs I know she put weeks what it does its take away the desire for carbohydrates then after 2 weeks start incorporating vegetable leaving vegetables know beans know rice know potatoes not of that stop buying ice cream at the store start making your own cookies yet you recipe book Tito Genesee Cato recipe book start making your own ice cream your own cookies on cakes and cream cheese Philadelphia cheesecake you can have a all the Philadelphia cream cheese in the house that you can get star using but I don't use my dream use all of oil coconut oil and what's the other kind of oil a forget right now I love all coconut oil in this one more you can use and butter I like carry go but expensive yes it's good to have organic meat now if you just taken care of one person it's cheaper but a whole family know but you got to leave that carbohydrate that sugar along and buy you some squirrel if you don't like stevia buy you some squirrel look in the sugar section at the market and get that get Himalayan salt stop using regular salt cuz it has too much stuff in it to give you high blood pressure don't you know Morton salt use Himalayan salt it has about 18 nutriments in it and I like it the rock can get me a grinder and grind it as I need it I like that but you can do it and then take you some nice walk don't worry about running take you some nice walks don't try to don't try to walk over mile because you don't want to get shin splints in the front of your legs does shin splints hurt real bad and then you exercise that and you was not used to that I love you I just feel like buster too much I just take it too far I got to take it down love you bye bye shalom shalom

My mother is type 2 diabetic 68 years old and she was on metformin for 3 years and since the year 2 started experiencing severe constipation along with real bad muscle cramps and pain in the soles of feet to the degree she would wake up in the night with this pain. I did some research only to discover thousands of other people also reported these same issues. I decided to gradually wean her off metformin while paying carefull attention to her diet and reducing carbs considerably. after about a week of abandoning metformin all her issues were resolved and because of the lw carb diet her blood sugar readigs were also within normal range. She is like a new person. Please be carefull with this medication blood sugar can be controlled through diet alone and my personal opinion is this drug is a huge money spinning scam. T2 diabetes can be fully controlled through diet alone.

I too am coming to the realization that Metformin is a racket. I have felt so bad from all the side effects and have made the decision to wean myself off by replacing it with Berberine, a natural supplement with no side effects. Just one day of no Metformin made me feel like myself again. I slept like a baby all night with Berberine and no night urination. I woke up so refreshed and energized. My mind was clear, no brain fog. I have had it with Metformin. And I don't care what the doctor says. They don't promote natural remedies. He had never even heard of Berberine.

Diarrhea is a big problem for me. After about six months I had big diarrhea events 2 to 3 times PER DAY. Been off it for well over a year, but I'm finding that the MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE injectables have the same side effect, but only about one day a week shortly after taking the one per week injections - several different brands. I'm currently on a Keto diet and it is not only bringing my weight down, but with much lower sugar and carb intake, my blood sugar level is coming down. I am looking forward to becoming a former Type 2 Diebetic. My doc knows about the keto diet but he never mentioned it until I did. He agrees that if I can continue I'll be able to "fire" him. He says several patients have been able to do this. WHY DON"T THEY TELL US ABOUT IT TO BEGIN WITH?

In 6 months my a1c was down to 5.1 . I still have not taken it . My last a1c was 5.7 . I hate taking drugs , side effects are always worse than the illness ! Eat healthy . lots of fresh veggies , chicken breast make you healthy . I test for glucose levels every day , when ever I slip on my diet , my levels start to slide up . Moral of that story is fresh food and excersise is the best medicne !

EXACTLY. This is what the healthcare system is predicated on. You go in for one condition, a drug is prescribed which causes side effects, and then the doctor diagnoses you with another condition, because your doctor is trained to diagnose and prescribe. Then another medication is prescribed because your doctor is trained to diagnose and prescribe. Before you know it, years go by, and rather than your initial condition getting better, you have 5 different conditions, 5 different medications, and your overall health is worse lol. Thank god for our healthcare system right? I'm glad you extricated yourself before they kept you going down that path

Just started the regiment. Although other sources were tapped for information, this video explained much as it coincided with the other sources but added other, very useful informative pieces explained in laymen's terms. I feel much more comfortable about starting this coupled with the other medications I am also taking.

I’m so glad to come across this video. I was starting to take metformin and carefully followed my doctors instructions on the dosage. However, after three days, I started having severe chest pains. I do have a heart condition. For a day and a half I continued to have chest pain, taking aspirin and nitro tablets to reduce the pain. But finally I said “Enough of this“ and went to the ER for the chest pain. I was hospitalized for two days for observation. During that time we stopped the Metformin and my chest pain went away. They determined that I was having side effects to the Metformin, and we switched to another diabetes medication. I’m handling that very well now and everything is back to normal. I mention all this because chest pain was not listed as one of the side effects in the video and I felt it was important to mention.

Yes, I consider myself very lucky, works like a charm for me! I have been taking it for 6 years now and my A1C is was 6.5 two weeks ago and I eat pretty normal. My original diagnosis came in at 450 and I have been at acceptable sugar levels since taking it. In fact my blood sugar level went from 450 to 105 in 3 days when I started. Side effects, non that I can detect.

How about not taking metformin and changing diet. My aging mother-in-law became housebound after a fall. My husband was visiting her daily bringing her restaurant take-out food for 2 years before she entered a nursing home. She was in her 90's and other than mobility issues, her health was good. After being on a diet of takeout food for 2 years she was diagnosed with diabetes. Immediately there was a discussion about prescribing medication. However, after being hospitalized from another fall in the house and spending some time in a recovery centre afterwards, her diabetes went away. Holy crap, we all exclaimed, Dad gave Grandma diabetes by feeding her takeout food! The highly seasoned carb loaded meals were so addictive that she rejected the home cooked meals I provided. She is now 104 years old, confined to a wheelchair and has dementia, but no diabetes.

Walking outside (rain or shine)at least 5 days in a week for 45 minutes will take care of your metformin mechanism. Added sugar is a sin for people who has high blood sugars. Never again drink any soft drinks. Drink only water. Be happy! Don’t complain about anything! If you complain take action. Never be worried! Be concern! Be kind, generous and humble! Give more and take less. Never go to bed with full stomach! If you can follow the above on a daily basis you will save a lots of money and will not require any medication for your health! Your health is your temple and keep it clean all the time!!

I've lowered my intake of carbs drastically and that includes grains. Grains shoots my bloodsugar through the roof. I don't have any issues with diarrhea. I have the opposite problem because I have a hard time getting fiber into my system without grains. I eat meat, cheese, most veggies and an occasional fruit usually watermelon or grapes. Watch out for some sugar alcohols especially maltilol which really acts like sugar for me. A lot of non-sugar bars have maltilol. I found out about that the hard way. Shot my A1C way up. You also need to take CoQ10 and many minerals if you take this drug.

@@retiredarthritic2083 eeeewwww, are you suggesting folks not compare REAL episodes as dangerous PE for fear of considering the REALITY?! The acidosis alone can create clots. The interactiins are so varied, no way the patient conditions/drug interactions could be studied. Please folks use the blogs and White Papers to assess your own conditions. Medical errors are always in the Top Ten annual cause of death and this includes drug interactions.

@Shehla Khan , taking Metformin with meal is good. You want to start taking Metformin when fasting blood is over 125 mg/ dL. Some doctors will prescribe at lower blood levels to avoid full blown diabetes. Reducing carbs in the form of starches and simple sugars will really help reduce your blood sugar level. Watch beat diabetes on you tube, Dennis Pollock is good and very down to earth. Best of luck it is a journey that you want to take seriously.
