I've heard/ seen a few of Dr Hart's lectures and the one thing I take away from them is there is a difference between drug use, drug abuse, and drug addiction, and society at large have not been taught to make the distinction.

TerraRyzinglives Well yeah of course. Hell too much water can kill you. Most of the time too much ANYTHING can be lead to SOME kind of health issue. I feel the primary issue with the public is that they simply just take the word of governing authorities and never question it. They never educate themselves. Not even politicians in Congress that actually legislate drug policies. They simply vote and pass laws in the favored direction of their constituents and their conclusions that were essentially based all on conjecture and irrational fear.

I think the main "monster" people talk about is not any particular drug, but the addiction and the factors behind it. People get addicted to alcohol, people get addicted to inhalants, people get addicted to opiates, people get addicted to benzos, people get addicted to weird synthetic drugs. All of them have their drawbacks and all of them can wreck a person's life. (With the exception of some drugs that are just not particularly harmful or addictive like LSD or marijuana.) There is a difference between a drug user and a drug addict, and most drugs can be simply used but not abused. Addiction arises from a mental need for escape, whether that be due to trauma, instability, poverty, mental or physical illness, or another reason. That escape manifesting itself into a maladaptive behavior is ultimately what causes the ravages we see in addiction. This can happen for behavioral addictions too- I know because I've struggled with an ED. Treat the addiction and the person's unique circumstances, not the drug. The drug is not the enemy here- the addiction is.

You have no evidence that *cannabis* (there’s no drug or plant named marijuana) is less addictive than any other drug you can name. You’re very close to spot on. Addiction is not caused by drugs, it’s caused by these environmental factors you talked about. The drug in question has nothing to do with the proclivity or likelihood to develop addiction. 10% of cannabis users are addicts, some studies show as high as 30%. I think those latter studies have some flaws, but the point remains. That is right where all other drugs fall, 10-20% of opioid users are addicts. 10-20% of alcohol users are addicts, etc. I myself was addicted to LSD, I almost destroyed my life due to my abuse of that drug, luckily I met a wonderful woman 5 years who turned my life around. I since enrolled in school to study this topic and have written a 90,000+ word book on the topic. You are close, but you need to extend this correct logic of environmental factors being the cause to all addictions. Including sex, porn, gambling, etc. the activity that the person is addicted to has nothing to do with the fact that with the developed an addiction.

this guy is making a HUGE mistake by assuming that those who manufacture crystal meth are all abiding by some strict industry standard recipe. The studies are all over the place because as is already well known on the street: no two baggies are alike. Now that pseudophedrin is no longer readily available, they are using all kinds of stuff and even changing the way they make it (shake and bake), hoping that the end product is at least close to producing the expected high,. This guy is not qualified to be making such statements. A chemist would need to take samples from around the country and THEN talk about the effects and the chemical make up of the stuff compared to things like Adyerol.
@laffbath6740
@laffbath6740 8 жыл бұрын
I think this guy is pretty intelligent and is going in the right direction, but you are right too. Street methamphetamine is basically never clean. Some of the extremely toxic chemicals used in the process will be left over, which in the end can be one of the main components leading to damage. When smoked or especially injected, there's no telling what it would do to the brain. But in the end, that's not really related to the actual drug. By itself, methamphetamine can probably apply to what Carl said. It's the left over chemicals and substances that it's cut with that make it potentially dangerous.

Desoxyn works fine for me, been taking it for 6 yrs for low grade narcolepsy. I finished my bachelors in Mechanical engineering without breaks in between, the medication (because it was used as directed) allowed me to power through school as if it was just another thing to do on my daily list. Im currently doing very well at my new job with no hiccups and moving at a fast pace daily. Again, if meth is your thing/rather you actually need it for a condition, when used as directed, it will vastly improve your productivity, however if you’re just a meth head, youre just that, an addict and I have no care or concern for you. Prescription Methamphetamine save my academic and professional life. Last note: to make it clear, no drug is going to make you want to do anything constructive, if the drive isn’t there, you’re just simply taking drugs

They don't take into account the fact that nowadays a lot of street meth is made from shitty chemicals, incorrectly, and then cut. You never know exactly what you're getting, or what dosage.
@averat84
@averat84 5 жыл бұрын
Some of that exists. Largely, when there's a flooded market like there is now, you need to have a standout product. It's also not cost effective to export cut products (see Wal-Mart and concentrated dish soap). Today's product isn't the same as the days of P2P, red phosphorus, or even lithium-ammonia reduction. Then there's the fact that Fentanyl is making its way in to stuff. Smacks of the gov't poisoning the industrial alcohol supply they knew would be stolen and bootlegged which killed some 10,000 people. The idea was to scare people away from drinking, but it failed. At even 100x greater potency than heroin (diacetyl morphine), it would take an almost undetectable amount for a naive user to develop a physical addiction to the opiate and attribute the craving to the methamphetamine.

I don't have hallucinations or any of the other side effects some people talk about. I do get the depression and sleeping for a whole day or two. But, then I'm okay. Not condoning for people to use. I'm not sure what his purpose is in minimizing the damaging effects Meth has on people's brains. I've seen presentations that elucidate the impact prolonged meth use has on brain chemistry. It increases "brain inflammation" or hyper-stimulates its' immune response for up to 5 years after the user has ceased their habitual use. Have even had discussions with people whose lives have spun erratically out control and lost their mind and a healthy outlook, all the while living in complete denial about how bad things had become. The damage may primarily be a combination of physical and psychological, but anything that has that kind disruptive and addictive potential is a danger and should be avoided. No reason to downplay its obvious destructive impact.

[13:35] "My goal is not to minimize real problems seen with methamphetamine abuse, because there are real problems. One of the main problems is that people don't sleep when they are taking methamphetamine. Now, if you don't sleep, and you're NOT taking methamphetamine you will have problems." The one cautionary sentence in this speech... and the next sentence minimizes it by saying sleep deprivation is bad for you with or without meth. I regularly stay awake for 3 days. This is not considered hardcore. I know many users who surpass. I know NO ONE who isn't taking meth who skips sleep like this. [2:50] He was on a panel, and his job was to review the scientific literature and make conclusions on the effects of meth. He concluded that low doses of (less than 10mg ) produce little effect. The panelists were "horrified" because they had an agenda and, he insinuates, his findings didn't show what they wanted to see. This account is impossible. 10mg (pure) is a low dose. Noticeable, but low. It would have a "little effect". There is nothing "horrifying" to anti-drug propagandists about the fact that a little dose has a little effect. [4:00] After deriding LEAP, the speaker goes over 3 "claims" that a narcotics agent (from the panel he "horrified") made. The first two of those claims: 1. "Tasers can't stop a meth user.. you need something stronger." ya: spit on Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, then rant about small-minded, trigger-happy cops. 2. "He also claimed that methamphetamine was like no other drug; the addictive potential was something like we'd never seen before..." The speaker never says this claim is untrue, and he doesn't counter it with anything at all. He just vocalizes it in way that suggests it it outlandish... and moves on. Meth is astonishingly addictive to many people. This characteristic of the drug: its ADDICTIVE POTENTIAL is not a myth propagandists made up. Nobody I know who uses thinks it is.

@youngamaker On the issue of addiction potential, drugs that are administrated through burning the substance also tend to have the highest potential for addiction. Smoking heroine, crack, meth, inhaling nitros, etc. These are all inhalants that become highly addictive when used. This video seems to just lighten the view on methamphetamine by showing it isn't bad when used the right way.

Crack cocaine is just freebase cocaine. It does give a much more intense high but for shorter periods and is harder to overdose on because it is less cocaine since you cook it with baking soda. It will show up as cocaine in any test because that's the only drug you're inhaling -- a non-water soluble cocaine.

Heroin is diacetyl morphine -- just another form of ordinary hospital morphine. The only difference is that heroin is three times stronger by weight. One grain of heroin equals three grains of morphine. They are both converted to the same form of morphine when they enter the body, so they are medically interchangeable. Now, if you want to know why the drugs are equivalent but one is legal while the other is banned entirely, you can find the answer to that in Chapter 9 of the Consumers Union Report on Licit and Illicit Drugs at www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/cu/CU9.html If someone is addicted to morphine/heroin and they are not getting it from a legal source, then they are getting heroin, because the only form of the drug regularly available on the black market is heroin. Therefore, it is correct to say that someone who is addicted to one is addicted to the other -- particularly if they are not getting it from a legal source. The word "heroin" may be viewed as more inflammatory -- but only if you don't understand that the two drugs are really the same.

D-amphetamine and Methamphetamine are different, methyl 's on the nitrogen! Stronger and more persistent! I'm prescribed Adderall, and I often take a nap after taking it! Admittedly? I've never done Crank or Coke, but I suspect there's a big difference? Maybe the dose?

Adderall use to contain actual methamphetamine it was removed when right when the name switched to adderall. It had amps and meths mixed. Now adderall is 4 amphetamines blended together. They still make methamphetamine tablets in big pharma. Deosyn still available for prescription. Going from amp to methyl group makes it 3 times more potent. And the body has no enzyme to break it down the way it does dopamine. It's close enough it fills the receptor. Sex releases 200% dopamine cocaine 400% meth releases 40,000% overbaseline. Dont try it take I use to take adderall on it sometimes but everything starts out great but it wont take long and things go south quickly bad for poor but a functioning addict one that's let's say has 1000 in Bill's and makes 2500 a month. You have enough disposable income to pay your bills and family needs and pay for a high dosehabit. And wont reach your lowest point for a long time you can keep feeding the habit. I was in that group. My families Bill's and needed were always met and had at least a few hundred I could spend without it ringing alarms I have to go I Walmart daily for stuff. Truck gets 6 mpg with the 7.5l motor. I dont have to steal anything I'm good at my job and enjoy my job. I'm a painter for a custom. Trailer shop and I've done some cars trucks Bobcars, skiffs, skid steer, dozers, military vehicles for the fire dept for then and on the side at my house I take side work in the spring to fall winter gets harder to paint outside a real booth. Anyways been with them for about 3 yearsnow. Around 2 years we went separate ways for a few months. They went through 3 painters and asked me to come back. They started losing dealers because the paint quality went from here and went down two notches and our trailers cost more then others. But we use thicker metal only American metal etc. And good paint. So its gets dangerous because I could but alot a quarter for myself a week or more and still easy paywall my Bill's and families need without stressing us. I used daily for a little over a year before my wife found out she couldn't never tell anything different only I wanted sex a little more but she said she thought something ws off but couldn't think of anything. My parents never knew and still dont to this day mu employers and co workers never could tell. See here's where the money came in. I knew my appetite would decrease so I'd go buy a couple cases of the off brand equate srinks. 350 calories a drink and drink 12 a day usually I gained and maintained weight not lostweight. I was drinking 3000 calories before I made sure I ate lunch I front of coworkers and I ate dinner at home. You can eat some especially with those drinks your body is getting calories and lots of vitamins round the clock your bot depriving your body. And I'd go to sleep at night for a few hours sometimes staying up while wife slept. But usuallyslept a few to a fullnight. I made no changed to my daily routine. While being zooming out my skull I intentioned slowed down my speech I could tell if I ws speaking fast. if I felt my mouth was gonna wanna chew or tremor around people I kept sour gummies worms. have for years ad a snack I'll just start eating some of them and then smoke a cigarette. But that was notcommon. Not many people came out to my shed turned paint booth and whether sanding or painting I have my respirator on o my face is covered bd I'm the last to lock up at night. Never thought you could gainweiht on meth but you can $55 a week 48 350 calorie drinks. You wont shrink down and your body is loaded with nutrients you can replace food or elderly people with those drinks. .

Just saw a part of yot comment. Meths the same way I could smoke a pipe and usually would before I went to bed just like any other drug or at least a few hits what also helps alot with meth is just a few hits a weed and you ll binge eat. Weed makes food good meth and weed make food like stuff your face good. Strangest thing honestly. And it keeps going every hourbor two like damn hunger again. Those that have the means ca easily hide it. $50 a week my skin stayed healthy my weight and strength stayed tr same my habits at work I made sure people saw me eat and get snacks out the machines I changed nothing I did before I started it. Just spent a little more time in the bathroom. But not enough to ask much. Sorry smoke a bowl (weed) got caught up on my phone. Raised no suspicion because weed makes me focus on things. You think meth mskestour horny at one point I ran steroids with it. Nd my doctor prescribes metestosterone. People think of meth users as skinny shriveled up pheenes stealing things for dope and ther is and I'd seen it. In some of the places I had to go go get it. But you have poverty users and above poverty but not yet middle class. I could make 80 last all week or I wanted tisplutt a quarter. One other guy at work didit. He paid 60 for one 80 for 8ball 20 bucks I got 2.5 grams helps egen more on those tight weeks mid month. But as I said the Bill's came first. Soon as I got paid bam paid ou the way I'm the sole provider for my family. 600 week let's say guy might spent 40 o 120 that week depends on bills. 40 70 I'm Getty g 5 grams for myself. On top f sny extra if I need more. Not paying that part paid for my 2 cases of drinks to maintain weight if money was tight I'd get gallon of chocolate milk for 2.99 at walmart Instead has over 2000 calories and it worked and held e over 5 gallons a chocolate milk in a werk you'll gsin weight guarentee and its $15 I always have a back typo my back up I terms of being normal. I didnt avoid people much I made sure to look. People I. The eye when speaking I didnt cower and avoidpeople. I constantly ate job and home life stsyes the same routines that's how evil this drug is. It is the dose, the methyl ring only affects how quickly the drugs effects are felt, that's it, the hysteria has claimed that the methyl ring is responsible for numerous outrageous differences but empirical evidence has proven this to be false. If you took only 10 mgs of Meth orally it would be unlikely to keep you awake at night. or have much difference psychologically. Adderall is both Dextro Amph and Levo Amph. I don't know why Dr. Hart omitted L-Amph it is responsible for the physical stimulation effect of Adderal. . Dexedrine is solely Dextro Amph and does not affect the extrapyramidal nervous syndrome in the same way as Adderall does. I smoke Meth regularly and actually find the euphoria from Dexedrine (which I was prescribed) to be more intense, Meth I thought "oh okay this is nice" but though the effect wasn't as intense it would keep me awake at night.
