Hip Hop is the only music genre out there where the newer generation of artists/fans doesn't respect the previous one, at least in the US. Meth & Red shows are always great when they perform overseas, even with the generation gap. You have people that weren't even born when How High came out attending their shows in places like Germany, France and Japan.

Honestly, this is only true of how Hip-Hop is consumed in the US. As you said, people overseas still take to our legends, but in the US it's all about the next thing. They're already saying that relatively new artists like Lil Baby, Da Baby, Roddy Rich etc. have "fallen off". If an artist goest 4 months without putting out new music then it's seen as a fall-off and there's someone else to take their slot. A total disposable culture tbh.

The issue aint that Meth and Red are too old, it's that black culture doesn't do Legends. Rock and white music has all sorts of old heroes who still perform. Look, as grown folks, we have to understand a few things about ageism. Look, ageism, age gaps, whatever you wanna call it is inevitable. It happens to every single artist in the world. Throughout history, music has always ran in eras and trends. Record labels (who call the shots) _cain't_ just have Big Daddy Kane as the premier artist for a consecutive 40 years. The music industry has to keep things fresh and new for generations to come. Look at history. It happens to ALL artists. Granted, some '90s artists may think they're still young and poppin', but the truth is, everybody gets older and aged out. I know it sucks, but that's just the truth. What's the demo for Summer Jam? Them kids ain't tryna hear no Method Man and Redman, especially rapping the way they do. This new generation simply does not resonate w/ that kinda content. Wordsmith, New York sound... baby, get over it. Like, let it go. We can make the argument about rock bands still being able to tour until they turn 80, but the practical reality is that in Hip-Hop, we (minus me) discard our legends. That's just the truth. Until something changes, it's gon stay this way. We'll revere the shit outta Eminem, but call Nasir old and irrelevant. WE (minus me) do that to our legends. And guess what? I don't see it changing no time soon. But yeah man, this ageism thing happens to ALL artists so I don't want my favorite artists to feel bad about it. Look at yo' history. Big Daddy Kane and them ruled the late '80s. Soon as the '90s came around, they were phased out. I do not expect to see Positive K at Summer Jam and them kids going crazy for him.
