I was stuck on a problem so I decided to generally search for help relating to this concept. This video happened to be the example I was stuck on, god bless you.

In the virtual structure, when you are isolating the joints, how do you know that fast that the bar loads are zero?
@Test-ri2kr3 жыл бұрын
7 years late I know sorry buddy but if anyone is interested There is a video made by engineer4free (I think) who tells you how to determine zero force members by inspection

I wonder if you have some videos for trusses subjected to temperature changes or fabrication errors, or maybe a combination of both? That would be splendid!

You account for the actual width of the truss with the variable A in the calculation. For the analysis of the forces you view it 2d.

Would it still work if you applied a virtual load vertically instead of horizontally?
@structurefree4 жыл бұрын
You would then be trying to calculate the vertical displacement.
@tatendamutero24237 жыл бұрын
What would you do if an extra member was placed on joint BD with displacement required at the same position as the original question
@PeterSsemakulaMukiibi7 жыл бұрын
Peter Mukiibi 1 second ago A question here; in the the virtual work method for evaluating displacements of nodes in a truss, do i have to calculate deflection in the x-direction and then after the y-direction in the case where the node experiences both x and y forces? (i.e applying unit load displacements differently for both cases

thanks man, helped me a lot.

what if you are trying to find a force applied at a joint to keep the deflection at that point 0?

On your virtual structure, did you forget about the 10 kN downward force at Point D?
@falcon58603 жыл бұрын
while calculating the moment about B, you took the anti clockwise as positive. Ax is clockwise but you still took it as positive. If I am wrong correct me pls.
@zayeaye38424 жыл бұрын
For step 2, for summation of forces in the x direction, wouldn't Ax= 1 ?
@arunachans7 жыл бұрын
when you used basic statics to find Ax in the real structure , shouldnt u have considered the 5kN reaction at C during the equilibrium moment at B.(Slide at 6:07). I calculated Ax to be 11.25. I am not sure but can u explain please..
@thomasmcnamara99707 жыл бұрын
Arun Mathew if you take moments @B the 5KN force is applied in the same line of action of point B and considering moments is force x perpendicular distance and the 5KN is acting in like not perpendicular you do not include it in moments calculation However for sum of forces in x you definitely need to consider the 5KN load
@anitasimpson44067 жыл бұрын
dont Ax and 10kn cause moments in different directions how come they have the same sign

your video could be very helpful if you slow down .you are very passion about what you doing and that's not a bad thing.but you need to understand that they are people exist need things to be explained in the slow way or a way pretending that your audience don't know what you are talking about,so you need to explain little thing even very quick not in details!don't assume that everyone can understand you with this speed of a blink of an eye!!!You are a very fast talker !!!you don't understand the power of your voice speed!!!too bad!I really wanted to watch your video,but i will have to skip over it!!
