When using the method to calculate deflection for frames, Why is it that the bending in a beam will be considered for the horizontal displacement, even though the beam doesn't bend horizontally, In all the exemples I've seen they calculate the bending in all columns and and beams no mattter in what direction of dispalcement they are looking for. why is that? thanks
