how would you do displacement at point D??
@structurefree12 жыл бұрын
are you referring to load combinations?
@yoeymusic8 жыл бұрын
Hey, say we're looking for vertical displacement; after we find all n-values and all N-values, do we only consider the vertical contributions of each member? or do we include all contributions (vertical + horizontal)? Thanks!

Hey, great vid, my professor wants us to comment on the result and whether it's in the allowable range or not? how do you do this ?!
@structurefree9 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Clarke if you had to do that you would need an allowable stress or material property to compare to.

The problems have like floor plan views and then ask to find the tributary area to find the loading on beams or girder. Im having a hard time understanding when to use the 45degree rule for the tributary area.

Great vid! The units are incorrect in the nNL column though, I believe. They should be kN^2 * m. The virtual load of 1 kN on the left side of the equation will cancel out the additional kN on the right side. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
@carultch Жыл бұрын
The virtual load has no units. We assume it is 1 arbitrary unit, which is simply a proportion relative to the units of the original load.
@renecampa611212 жыл бұрын
Your videos are very helpful, I have a final coming up in a week for structural analysis. Is it possible that you can make a video covering deadload and liveload and how it applies to loading on beams?
@tagelasfiarania65199 жыл бұрын
the direction of the virtual load how do determined it??
@structurefree9 жыл бұрын
It is more of a prediction. You guess up or down and if you get a negative it means it went the opposite of your prediction.

a struss structure pinned to the wall, members -A, B C (top) are equal length L and members E and D (bottom) are also length L, -A and E and L length spaced apart vertically, -A and E are pinned to the wall, -Applied load W at C -diagonal member from E to B and another at D to C (45 degree angles) what is the deflection at D? i've stuck with this question for awhile, can you help me please? A___B______C l l l____ l E D (sorry i couldn't draw the diagonal members)

Sir, pls post a few videos on lack of fit, effect of thermal expansion, etc., w.r.t truss. Will be very helpful. And your vids are great. But you already know that ;)

After doing the statics I figured out that member bc was 12,5 kN in tension. I did N*L / E*A and I got the same answer as you got. So is it necessary to use the the virtual load?
@thomasmcnamara99707 жыл бұрын
Jo DO the virtual load method is not for finding internal forces of members, you use the internal for members to find the displacement(delta) of a certain point in a truss or beam from the virtual load method

the vertical displacement at D?
@perrysopinsky72788 жыл бұрын
Why was your total area only 500 mm^2? In the first video you had each cross sectional area being 500 mm^2, but there are two triangles. I believe you wrote the equation as the sum of the areas.
@thomasmcnamara99707 жыл бұрын
Perry Sopinsky you only add the sum of the n.N.Li as seen at 2:41 in purple you bring the EA out the front as you would if you were using the double integration method for elastic curve

At the end, 18.75/200 is not equal to 0.1875, I think you divided by and E of 100GPa to get your answer.
