I've had a rescue pup before, and have just adopted my 2nd rescue. I've worked with a couple trainers already and not one of them has explained reactivity this well. I know that there are no untrainable dogs, just untrainable humans. Thank you so much for this. It's helping me with my own frustration and overwhelm ;) and I hope to understand my pup better now so she can thrive instead of be fearful.

This is sound advice, Thankyou. I am also performing the Behavioural Down method to settle my 21 mth Mini Schnauzer which a trainer instructed me on. It's time consuming but working. Your views on that would be appreciated.

so it looks like the reactivity thing is more complicated than we think because probably must of the dogs have few issues or maybe all of'em. ¿ How can humans release the whole history stress from owr dogs if we can't make a partial diagnoses and also we don't know how to fix it up ? Maybe is pretty much for our specie. Thanks for share. It is a very interesting way to explain it. Best wishes for all ! 🙏🐾🫂

I apologize but I'm not clear on how to de-stress them?? Play tug? Long walk in the park ? Probably sounds stupid but I'm so wrapped up in my dog I can't think straight and now I'm so concerned for her. I live in North Carolina and you live in Indiana otherwise I'd be on your doorstep. I need retraining😬🐩

No need to apologize! Asking questions when you are unclear is how you learn! To answer your question, you aren't de-stressing them. You are guiding them to choose a different response to a stressor other than stress, to relax. If they choose to be relaxed instead of stressed, then you don't even need to de-stress them. You do this by consistently stopping the stressful behavior (pacing, barking, self destruction) by picking up the tab leash, guiding them to a place where they can sit until they are truly relaxed before releasing them from that position. It isn't about obedience and keeping the sit, so if they lay down on their own, great because that is a step closer to relaxing! However, each time they try to stand, immediately sit them back down again with soft, consistent upward leash pressure. I highly recommend checking out these consistency, leash pressure, and tab leash videos Method K9 has out, too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2KynmWpiJyIp9Esi=_FqHvsSV8VCAnLyT kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmfViYBvn9iUfMUsi=vYgYoIMFusTCdT71 kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2qcZ5t4f5Z_irMsi=l2JSOafZyhE1P893 P.S. I'm sure there are great trainers in your area. Look for a highly recommended and rated motivational, balanced trainer to help you before any behaviors get worse. Remember the consistency video for thinking about your need for a trainer to guide you to teach your dog appropriately, too. That's so important! Best of luck!

Hi Barbara I realise that I'm a little bit late to the party on this, but never underestimate the power of the lead, especially indoors. Take the dog to a spot in the house/room that they feel safe and get a sit, and keep both the dog and your energy still until you see evidence of calm. Once you have it in the house, take it out to the yard, and when the dogs stressing less in the yard, start on the street outside your house. Only then try the walk. As she says at the end of the video, stillness initiates calm. Good luck.
