The rear 2/3 line up better than I was expecting to see. The driver compartment (dash area etc) are pretty close to where the metro firewall would be. And the rear wheels are pretty close to. I've instantly subbed this build is fascinating. Cant wait to see how it turns out. Best of luck with the build I look forward to watching it.

@@pedenconceptz I appreciate it's not finalized and there are several thousand hurdles to make it all work but I was just impressed at how well the engine position matched to the rear and the drivers area didnt look to far out. It looks like he’s going to have another go at it with the v6 out of the mini… well I assume that’s where he’s talking about going with it. Yea, a space frame would have been another option. Just subbed. Please don't take this as a criticism, but i would have used the porsche as a donor and made my own chassis. Seems a lot less work in the long run with more structural integrity than chopping so much out of the Porsche chassis. Will be interesting to see how this progresses .
@pedenconceptz6 ай бұрын
The only area affected is the Pilar, and that supports the window frame on the boxster, this is going to be replaced by a new Pilar and I intend to have an internal roll cage, or a roll cage at the very least. In my opinion this chassis is far superior something I could design myself, and all the strength is in the bottom 12” of it. If I built a separate chassis, it have to strip the car entirely, months or years of parts lying in the corner and a lump of box section that looks like a metro in the other, decisions over trying to fit every part. Everyone has a different opinion but what I want is a nicely finished road car, I want the fit and finish of a porsche and the looks of a metro, not a race car that has a porsche engine. And no offence taken whatsoever, I value your opinion.

Presumably the 6R4 had the rear wheels moved back to win a bit of extra wheelbase...fairly normal trick. The dinky Metro body does make the skateboard look big! Fair play, keep on chopping!
@theoriginalwallace6 ай бұрын
And the front ones moved forwards. Austin Metro wheelbase: 88.6" vs 6R4: 94.1".
@pedenconceptz6 ай бұрын
I don’t know if they are as short as 94.1, I’ve seen approx 94.5 and 95, and this boxster is 95, so hoping the kit puts it in the ballpark. But that’s part of the problem, you ask about the wheelbase or a dimension and you get different answers from each person building one.
@BungleBare6 ай бұрын
Part of the issue might be the differing wheelbases of various versions of the Metro. You’re working with a K-series engined Rover Metro, whereas the starting point for genuine 6R4s was the earlier type of A-series engined Metro. Everything forward of the windscreen on the K-series models was re-engineered as the Metro went from gearbox in sump layout to an end-on gearbox. Austin Rover took the opportunity to lengthen the Metro slightly at the front at that point for packaging/styling reasons. Thus shoving the front wheels slightly forward and lengthening the wheelbase a touch. It’s something to bear in mind in terms of your ‘90s Metro shell compared to those used for 6R4s in the mid ‘80s. All that said, the Metro shell is to all intents and purposes the same from the A-pillar back, no matter which model you started with. Great project. Can’t wait for the next video.

I would've cut out the stamping for the back hatch and windshield then split the shell down the middle. Then its much easier to deal with, replace the roof panel and fill in the small gaps either side of the back hatch and windshield stampings
@pedenconceptz6 ай бұрын
The metro 6r4 with the bodykit fitted is 4 inches wider than a boxster. If I widen the shell. The whole thing would be even wider again. If you want to avoid modifying the door shuts you’d need to widen it by 6”…. The end result would be a car that was 10”, yes 10” wider than a boxster!!! You’d also have 4” or 5” wide window pillars. I can see why you think this would work but when your standing beside it, it’s a different story.

I think I'd not be too worried about cutting strength out of the Porsche. You are putting a roof on the car after all, which has to be a help with rigidity as well as a cage. Though I'm not a fan a cages in road cars. It strikes me as a dangerous, especially in a small car, where it's likely to hit you in the head.
@pedenconceptz6 ай бұрын
I’ve already had this debate with myself over my last escort build. And came to the conclusion that with the car folded round me it wouldn’t matter what hit my head. But one thing is I have found very nice padding for it, secondly in a metro 6r4 (genuine) the cage goes inside the pillars. And I’ve seen one rolled without a cage and it was not good. Plenty of strength in this chassis but I’d like to put more in the roof, the pillars are very very very tiny
@jamesdeath34776 ай бұрын
@@pedenconceptz fair enough. I'm pretty sure you've put way more thought into this than I have, after just watching the videos. Interesting project in any case and a great idea.

Did you consider using more of the metro floor pan, and cutting Boxter in half putting front and rear sections in separately?
@pedenconceptz6 ай бұрын
I think there’s various ways you could skin this cat. You could do that yes, and maybe a box section frame, etc. but I like the structure and strength of the boxster chassis, it was designed to have no roof after all, plus I want to turn out a factory finish type of car (if possible) and the benefit is this will hopefully always be a running and driving car… which helps motivation
