Bruhhh! I’m from the Bronx & know New York City 80’s Hip Hop extremely well. I NEVER heard of the “Showboys” though I’m sure I most likely have “Drag Rap” on a WBLS or 98.7 KISS Chuck Chillout, Red Alert , Mr Magic or Marley Marl cassette mix from that era. Thanks to you and your knowledge of Hip Hop, I just researched the origins of Memphis & New Orleans Hip Hop / Bounce & found out just how IMPACTFUL “Drag Rap” / “Trigger Man” as they call it down south was on their sound / culture. I was as shocked as the “Showboys” were when they discovered their record was the FOUNDATION of Memphis & New Orlean’s sound i.e Gangsta walkin, Bounce, Trap and most likely had an influence in Miami Bass as well. I always say Everlasting Bass is such an important song to Memphis Rap. Not just the sample as a whole, but the individual drum sounds. Similar to how Triggaman Drag Rap is to New Orleans Bounce. Also, it's crazy to see the huge influence of Memphis Rap in todays music! It's always been one of my biggest inspirations since I started making beats 25 years ago.

New Orleans Bounce is NOLA's attempt at doing Memphis Buck, which Mannie Fresh has admitted. Buck was one of the primary inspirations for Bounce, Crunk, Trap and much of Mississippi. Alabama and Texas Rap. 'Everlasting Bass' is just a Matrix-12, some Joe Cooley Scratches and a basic TR-808. TR-808s' drums are too generic to be identified with a particular city, as they were heavily used by everyone and in most every Hip-Hop sub-genre.

@@yepyep3897 I thought for certain the synthesizer used to make Everlasting Bass was the Roland Jupiter-8. Which was heavily used by The Egyptian Lover. He also signed Rodney, Joe and Jeff to his label so I’m sure they used The Egyptian Lover’s Roland TR 808 and Jupiter-8.

Three 6 mafia sampled everlasting bass in multiple songs. Metro, who is a huge three 6 fan, took from those multiple songs in how he structured like that. Then usin the easy e sample that three 6 also used in ridin spinnas in the same exact manner just put the icing on the cake. Probably the easiest song he ever cooked up. Not the first time he used samples that three 6 also used, exactly how they used them….huge three 6 mafia fan here also

One tipi learned from Moby on sample editing. Pitch your sample way down then cut the beginning of the sample. This makes the sample precisely on point. Excellent for looping. Now this was before screens with waveforms!😄

I Appreciate this post to the utmost! Much love and respect to the West, Rodney o and Joe Cooley were surely 1 of the 80's best! Before the Metro record came out I was really bumpin some Rodney o for real, then I heard the sample and immediately knew it was going to hit. An underrated trio for sure in Hip Hop , yes trio, don't forget about General Jeff. I truly enjoyed Joe Cooley's cuts and drop selections. There is a treasure trove of beats from the 80's electro hop era from the West that are ripe for sampling. Great tutorial! Keep it up!

Egyptian Lover/Greg Broussard is a really cool dude. i interacted with him on facebook regularly just as a fan over the years, liking & commenting on his stuff, and then i started getting happy birthday posts from him on my birthday, and even got a signed album from him! his beats like, played throughout my childhood growing up in skating rinks lol STILL so upset i couldnt find a way to see him when he had a show with Tommy Wright III & La Chat in ATL on my birthday one year!!!
