Metro Employee Historic Vehicle Association 1976 AMG AM General model 10240B-8

This is a VERY brief recording of this historic 1976 AM General - model 10240B-8 from the MEHVA fleet during a quick move around the yard. This bus is powered by the Detroit Diesel 8V71N engine and the Allison V730 transmission. I hope to get back to see this bus again someday and get a good recording of it out on the road.

SCRTD operated these in the 80s, and I remember they had curve wind shields like GM New Look, Flxible New Look have flat edge wind shields, but it has a strait cross bar like the Flxible New Look, GM NL had a hump in their cross bar. These were oringinally design by Flyer which is now New Flyer.

I agree, except maybe in the Canadian Prairie Provinces... If left outside, they need the either to get them going if parked for awhile in the cold up here. I wish I had a longer recording of this bus too.,.. Take a look at the video response to this video of the AMG from Minot, North Dakota.

@MisterMcbean - Quite similar, yes. But the 8V is deeper sounding. It also depends on the exhaust system on each bus as well.

@rmx77 - The MEHVA groupd has saved AM General #1122. This recording is from last May of 2009. It is part of the historical fleet, so yeah there still is one. They also saved one of the AM General Trolley Coaches as well. #1009 (IIRC)

Sounds like 1978-79 GMC RTS in my hometown Lansing, MI CATA.

seattle doesnt even have any am general anything anymore. only around the hollidays do they bring out the old 1940's trolly type buses and the 1968 model gmc new look buses but thats the only time they bring them out

@dejohn913 They should NEVER have stopped making those Good Ol' 2 Cycle Detroits PEROID!!! The computer controlled 4 cycle diesels that Detroit makes now sound like 100% PURE GARBAGE!!!!! Yep!!! We'll never get that sound again!!! But we can keep it alive in our hearts!!! I'm thinking of writing Detroit an Email asking to start making 2 cycles again, Let's see if that works.
