Ever since I met Miller in 2033 I instantly grew to like him. I just got the good ending after my first time playing Exodus and I will never forget the moment Artyom checked to see the sleeping Colonel sitting in the front seat, only to see the the lens of his gas mask fogged up from his last breath. At first I was absolutely excited to go on another mission with Miller, not knowing it would be our last. This grizzly old man was easily my favorite out of the entire squad and seeing him go was more than heartbreaking. I expected someone to die but not Miller. He was the only one to go in my playthrough. He was old and basically crippled but he still seemed so immortal, yet he sacrificed his life to save Artyom. As he said: "My time's up." I absolutely loved this entire series. I have played many story driven videogames but I don't think there has been a single one where I have cared about the characters this much. I am currently waiting on the next steam sale so I can buy the DLCs because I still wish for more content from this amazing piece of art. Goodbye Colonel.

Recently I played the Metro trilogy on ranger hardcore and after everything this part hit different. It was my third time playing Exodus so I knew what was going to happen but after going through Artyom's journey (and dying a lot in the process) I kept thinking save Miller save Anna don't give up! Honestly the driving scene to me in the section at the end is the perfect way for the series to end. The whole trilogy Artyom never stops, no matter what beast or faction is in his way he finds a way out of it. And how does it end? You drive, so simple but so emotional. Even when he's at deaths door he pushes himself and doesn't hesitate. And as a player I really felt this sense of urgency to push forward, I've never been so invested in a games overall story before. When it ended I sat there and just smiled. Artyom is a great character, the entire trilogy is amazing, and I can't wait to do it all again. Everything I wanted in The Last of Us 2 Metro Exodus gave me, can't wait to see what 4A Games does next!
@nomansdie86243 жыл бұрын
I know I am late but I just finished Metro and when you compared it to The Last of us 2 I remembered how it failed to connect gameplay and story (out of many other mistakes). Simmilary how Nakey Jakey points out how an old Metal gear game (can't remember right now) had effect on end if the player killed insted of non lethal etc. the same is with Metro Exodus. The fact that saving people, going non lethal, is a players choice and not like in the last of us two, where it doesn't matter if you kill or not. Making Metro a lot more personal and superior with its mechanics.
@maplemaple14392 жыл бұрын
Just finished my first playthrough, and I got the good ending. When I saw that there were only three shots of the anti-rad, I already had a bad feeling, but dismissed it, thinking "oh maybe the game just means that there's one for each of us, miller, the kid, and I" Then after getting out of the lab and seeing Miller coughing while using the shot on me, my heart sunk. I was already 80% sure it was over for Miller, but I really didn't care, the only thing I was thinking was "faster!" Was trying not to cry from the driving to the ending, as I was thinking about how Miller was always there, right from the start, how you watch him age and change, and also what Artyom writes about him in the diary you read on the Aurora train.
@maplemaple14392 жыл бұрын
@@nomansdie8624 the metal gear games to my knowledge don't have varied endings, but the player's choice with non-lethal DOES affect things during the game. There's a part of MGS3 that is influenced by exactly how many people you kill(won't go into specifics), MGS4 makes Snake throw up if he does too many bad things, and in MGS5, Snake's face becomes covered in blood and grows a devil's horn if you do too many bad things (this takes effort to reverse). And of course, your actions will also influence plenty of character interactions.

*Spoiler warning.* I remember I was spoiled about Miller's death. I didn't know how he died, I just saw a YT thumbnail. That still didn't prepare me for how devastated I was when it happened. This guy, I couldn't even remember his name in 2033. In LL he was a stereotypical gruff leader. Then in Exodus he was a confused father looking for his youth again. Miller looked invincible. Nothing could stop him. He lost his legs, he got back up. He delivered one of the boldest statements I heard in a video game (you should've died, like people!). I pretended to smoke just to listen to what he wanted to say. He had the unique distinction of carrying the only working Volt Driver from the Metro, and borrowing it from him felt like a crime. He didn't waste a moment to use his own dose to save me. He already knew he was going to die, it didn't even occur to him to be afraid of the end. I'm so used to seeing Russians as crazy, Russians as the Heavy, Russians as bad guys. Classic East vs West arrangement. Miller if we met him in a CoD game would almost certainly be a boss yelling at his spetznaz subordinates into battle. We'd probably forget he existed. Colonel Miller in Metro instead led a brutal resistance against the Metro itself, he messed up his own chance at a loving wife and beat himself for it, he had nothing but the hidden watchers giving him orders by the time we set out on the Aurora. And then, we found out Russia was truly gone, and so was NATO. Not even an enemy left to justify Miller's dream campaign. So he changed, he fought to protect others again, like he did before he got addicted to taking orders. He looked at the punishment set out before him and took it with respect. He got what he deserved, and at the same time he could find peace in it. How many people, men women or otherwise, can claim to return from such depths of misery? He once fought to end the world, but now he has helped save it.

It was basically this call of duty like blasting orchestral piece they felt they needed during the Spartan's great charge against the dark ones, the moment that Miller proved the Spartans worthy of their title and young Artyom proved himself worthy of their ranks. Still one of the best games I ever played in my life, not even joking. This game was fucking amazing. Trust me, I've played many games, first-person shooters, story games, but Metro Exodus is something different bro.. it truly gave me the feeling as if I'm in a World War 3 scenario and everything is deadly infected. The ending was also very amazing and even made me a little emotional. I really hope they do make another game sometime soon because this one was truly a masterpiece.

I was getting bored with Metro Exodus and just wanted to end it as fast as i can. Not until this music and ending played that i realized what i have been missing out. This and the DLC content made me remember what metro games are all about. Ever since i ended Metro Exodus, I've been comming here and listening to this track every night because i miss the game so much. You don't know what you've got, Until it's gone.

Metro is such a great game, great story... But sad at the same time. It doesnt matter you get good or bad ending. Its still sad. I finished Exodus like two weeks ago. I got bad ending. I still cant stop thinking about Artyom and Anna. How it would been if this was a reality. What could they do different ? I would never allow my wife, my love go out alone. Never at that situation. Only together. Still, all my respect how they loved each other, guarded each other, respected each other till the end. I wish it could be that easy in real life.

I am raised on story-driven experiences and this series is one of the best story trilogies on the market. People forget how important it is to connect with the characters in the game to give it that personal experience, to feel how harsh life can be, and sometimes how a choice can impact not only you but other people around you. I have played through this trilogy many times, with different approaches, and aside from the story and its protagonists, the music was always the main factor that helped me connect to the world. Through the years I have developed, a habit of not listening to music that doesn't give me goosebumps, and the whole soundtrack and its perfect timing does that, it just fits this world and environment so good I can't even explain it. I wish the game was a bit longer thou, the DLC's, especially since there was so much room for exploring the world and its stories. And yes I wish the ending was a bit different and that Miller would have lived but then the impact of his sacrifice would not be so hard on the player and I would not give us those feelings we get after completing the game.

I know this comment is old but I just wanna say that finishing this game with bad ending is hard as fuck, you have to kill literally every living shit to get bad ending my man. I tried to get bad ending after my first run but I couldn't.
@Manganization3 жыл бұрын
@@aknkrstozkn the bad ending is hilariously easy to get. It just depends on killing the wrong thing, not returning or doing any favours, and not spending time with any character. You don't start off with much karma, so not getting yourself involved with sidequests or characters and just going ham will easily deplete it. The biggest way to tank your karma is to just completely ignore the warnings from friendly NPCs and kill them when they're surrendering or defenseless or do stuff that would eventually kill two out of three of your crew.

Seriously, it is the time i seriously felt it, felt strong grip on the wheel, felt how Artem keeps his eyes open, fights to not close them, just keeps on driving, just bit forward just bit more, shame they refused to give Artem voice in any of the game which broke the scene, it would do it way more justice of Artem was talking to Melnik

Driving scene is the best dramatic scene I ever seen in games. Everything - stunning monologue by Kirill, picture of dark winter with the moon, absolutely dead town, music crying with hope, our goal - to save Anna, and the pure minds about way we passed with Artyom and Miller.

Metro 2033 ended with an intense climb to the top of a tower to annihilate the Dark Ones. Metro Last Light ended with a battle to rival any other in the metros, and it would determine the balance of power. Metro Exodus... ended with a car ride. Exodus is my favorite ending.
@amplified12883 жыл бұрын
Man this scene was genuinely the first time I was close to crying at a death in a video game. His death was so sudden, it seemed this man was invincible. Survived an attack from a demon atop a tower, survived losing his legs from the red army, so I thought, “what could a bit of radiation do?” And I grew to love him, the first game sure, I didn’t know him much, he was a stern leader of special forces, nothing special. Second game he again was stern, but I trusted him, he fought to the end and kept fighting after that. Third game i recognized his voice, face, everything, almost as if he was a true friend. Once I saw him breathing I felt assured of his well-being, until it stopped.

Col. Miller, he found Artyom thanks to the Dark Ones, he didn't know how he found Artyom he said roughly that he could just feel like he knew where Artyom was, it is a true shame that the Dark Ones couldnt save him yet...the ending would not be the same it would not be as heartfelt or anything like it, Miller, The Dark Ones, Artyom and Crew all played their parts in their game of life, wherever Artyom goes the Dark Ones will follow.

That final moment of driving through the snow and the night, with the Moon guiding your path, and the innocent voice of Kirill encouraging me to ride on and fully knowing that Miller will leave me with that music, ugh, I don't know how to describe it. His love and will to save Ana againts hopelessness and despair, lead him to challenge and defeat death itself. It is one of the most emotional moments I have experienced in a video game.

Dammit. The whole time driving to the train, you just know he's gone, you're probably next and Anna might well be already dead as well, yet you're still trying to find the physical and psychical strength to get back, if there's the thinnest chance of this somehow ending well.

Despite the lack of a timed game play mechanic, the situation in Aurora forced me to rush Volga and Caspian, while Anna's health made me rush Taiga and Novosibirsk.

Yeah. Yeah, when I hit the end there, all those complains I had building, they were certainly there, but they were subdued when I got to the last 10 minutes, and the credits. All the miserable bugs, the KOs that couldn't be executed, the weirdness with having to carry Torkarev's airgun/varient, all of it! All of it fell away, as I considered, this is the best story I've experienced in a game in a long while. I've just finished the game and... Well, after watching the good ending (I got the bad one), I'm sure of one thing : The bad ending is way more emotional than the good one. When I heard this sound, I was divided between anxiety for Artyom's, Anna's and Melnik's lives, sadness for the end of a freakin' good trilogy and an excellent game, and happyness for the cure to Anna's sickness, the future home and familly of Kirill, and the finally achieved safety for the crew. Ultimately, I cried for almost an hour when I saw the end coming, I just couldn't accept this end, but I had to, knowing that I've done something wrong when I was playing. [SPOILER ALERT] While Melnik's death is an honorable and legit one, due to his old age and the chance he gave to Artyom when he had given him his dose, Artyom's one is way more harder, just like a train had just hit you. When you see the train coming, you think "Well, he will come back just soon enough, it can't be the end.", but then, it become "Don't give up, not now, you've got a wife and a dream, don't make Melnik's sacrifice worthless !", and when you wake up in your everlasting journey in that train, you can't ignore it : While your last mission, save Anna, was successful, you just failed your main objective : To keep everyone alive 'till the end. Khan's speech is as powerful as harmful, because you know what he told you in the previous games, but you ignored his message : Violence cause violence, war breeds war, death bring only death, and it's your duty to break this chain.
