Fun fact: Metro in Naples, in fact, also consists of suburban lines, which share the numbers with real metro lines, making the system large in case of number of lines (currently, 13 lines of this system operates here, with 3 (1, 6 and 11) being the full metro lines with fourth (10) being in construction, and others are commuter lines, operated by different operators).

Line 2 is actually a subway. In fact, it complies with the UNI standards that define the subway. However, Wikipedia defines it as an urban railway pass, which is true (or rather, WAS true), but the infrastructure has been updated a lot since 100 years ago, when it was built. And today, it effectively has a reserved location, although the systems can occasionally be shared (on different tracks - see Pozzuoli Solfatara and Campi Flegrei). On Wikipedia, extensive discussions characterized the topic especially in 2009 and 2019, but, since the administrators were poorly informed, and rejected every edit on the relative pages, the status quo prevailed.

I wonder where you're from? These CAF trains we have in Naples are definitely good, and may I also say, a huge upgrade from our old rolling stock - much quieter and air conditioned. Yes I will miss the sound from the old trains, but at the same time, I welcome the upgrades

Years ago the Circumvesuviana tickets (huge) had the destination location pre-printed while the departure location was indicated at the time of purchase. Probably a unique case in Italy

50 years ago or more, combined tickets were already available between the Circumvesuviana, the Metro of the State railways and the Cumana and Circumflegrea railways. Perhaps a more unique than rare case in Italy for the time
@gabrielstravels7 ай бұрын
You can still buy an integrated day ticket that allows you to travel on the metro, national railways (Trenitalia), and local railways such as the Circumvesuviana. It costs €5.40 (or at least it did in January this year, price may have gone up now) and it's called *Giornaliero Integrato* - the only problem is that it's only valid within Naples city, so if you want to travel beyond to e.g. Sorrento, you must still buy a normal ticket to get to a destination outside of the city.

🚄 beautiful video, it's a shame that our beloved Naples metro is badly managed by the ANM. I prefer it to be managed by Trenitalia rather than to be badly managed by a company that also manages road transport badly. Please note that unfortunately you still see brain-damaged people around with the mask oh my how sad they represent there their inferiority stop.

I'm surprised to see so many of the new CAF trains in the video. Are the old yellow trains being retired? I thought the CAF trains were for the line extension and not to replace the old trains. Does anyone know if they are being phased out and when the last train of the old class will run?

@@TheBerlin09 the CAF Inneo metro trains are replacing the old yellow trains as well as increasing capacity as a result of the extensions (from what I've heard!)
@DrGreg2122 ай бұрын
The trains of the neapolitan metro are unique, in fact there's no other train with compatible pieces in the world, and that makes them decay faster than the usual. While we were waiting for the new CAFs, the M1s had so many troubles that in 2022 we ended up having only 5 old trains operational with just 4 wagons instead of the usual 6, and the frequency fell drastically down to one train every 24 minutes. TWENTYFOUR. And these 5 trains even had daily failures, so the line was often reduced from Piscinola to Dante, cutting all the stations from Toledo to Garibaldi in order to serve the line with a frequency lower than 30 minutes, which would have been a real shame (the train depot is in Piscinola, that's why). So yeah, the 24 Inneos are intended to substitute the M1s completely, maybe only the one in the video will remain, until it will eventually be sent to a museum due to its uncapability of continuing to operate.

@@DrGreg212 Thank you for your very detailed explanation of the old M1 trains and the situation in Naples. I was in Naples in 2019 and was totally fascinated by the old trains, the design and the sounds. And I wanted to go back to Naples at some point to take more pictures of the old trains. So I was surprised when I only saw the new trains in the video here. If I understand you correctly, is there only one old train still running, if at all?

@@TheBerlin09I'm from Rome, so I cannot answer you about the M1 yellow train. However I can tell that that train is basically a mix between two trains which years ago operated on Rome line A: MA 100 train, which has almost the same appereance as M1 but makes a more boring sound being older, it mounts a DC engine. And MA 200 which are newer in appereance but has a very similar sound because it possesses an AC engine with a gto-vvvf inverter only slightly newer than the one on Naples M1. Check out for MA 200 trains in Roma-lido railway if you come to Rome, you can find them now and if you like M1 sound you will not be disappointed. By the way I noticed just now that MA 100 trains are shown in this video: they are the white ones shown after 12:03. As you can see, they are very similar to M1s but do not have AC engines. These trains come from Rome line A.
