Thank you for doing this. This is my favorite video game of all time and I've never seen the map like that. Amazing. As a child, I never would've thought that Mother Brain was right on top of our heads at the very beginning.

In an old issue of Nintendo Power they had a fold out map. I think it also had cheat codes. there's no way I would of beat that game without that magazine. this is my all time favorite game as well!

@@supernothing77 There's also a complete map in the Nintendo Player's Guide book. It has all sorts of games detailed with their maps, item locations, etc. It's a great collectible for the NES and practical for gamers. If it weren't for that book I would have had a very difficult time with this game as a kid.

Right where she is in Super Metroid, as well! It's real interesting if you compare the original Metroid and Super Metroid maps. You can almost see how the bomb at the end of Metroid shifted the tunnels 'n such.

The original Metroid isn't cannon, as Zero Mission is it's remake. In Zero Mission, the only thing effected by the self destruct is Mother Brain's room, the room's before and after, and a few parts of Crateria.
@pizzweak580
@pizzweak580 6 жыл бұрын
@Spit Dragon No, that would make it head canon. Just because you don't personally want to acknowledge Zero Mission, it does not affect it's objective canonical place in the story.
@Zeithri
@Zeithri 5 жыл бұрын
@@pizzweak580 I do not acknowledge Metroid Zero Mission as canon. Just as I do not acknowledge Prime as Canon, nor Samus Returns the supposed Remake of Metroid II that failed to grasp the intricate details of Metroid II. No, in my view, it is now two Timelines. Timeline 1; Metroid I - Metroid II - Super Metroid - Other M - Metroid Fusion Timeline 2; MZM - Prime - Hunters - Prime II - Prime III - Samus Returns - Federation Force - Prime IV Because regardless if you like it or not, regardless of Nintendo says or not, the Prime series cannot be stuffed into what was 'the original Trilogy' because they do not fit. And the ending part of Samus Returns is stupid but fit canonically with events of Prime. That is a fact. They do not fit with original NES one. Therefore, I will stick with my far superior headcanon, over the B-grade remakes.

Yeah, there's a HUGE shaft leading up a ways to the right of where you start, and to get to Mother Brain you get to the top, go left, and wind your way back down.

Fucking Epic! Luring that reo into the MB entrance was pure genius! And mastery of the improvised Space Jump by morphing out of the ball mid-air is what makes these speed runs possible. I remember the first time I discovered that trick as a kid - thought I was the Metroid master for having figured out how to use that move. I also remember discovering the glitch about getting stuck in the walls but never saw the potential. Epic!!!

@Pirwzwhomper The latter part may actually be due to the skills of the TASer. One of the secrets to this run was manipulating certain enemies into not appearing to spped up the route.

No worries :) I use TAS's for my videos simply for the expedience of the play-through. I'd prefer to use a glitch-less speed run, but there's very few of those, if any, with an input file that I need to get perfect quality footage from an emulator. If you'd like to submit one, I'd consider using it!

The difference in that scenario is the use of a cheat code. Cheat codes and glitches are different, in that cheat codes are deliberately added by the programmers, while glitches are typically accidental (some are discovered, but left in because they're usually funny and don't break the game in any way). Using a glitch is generally seen as taking advantage of a situation that, though unintentionally included, is part of the game. A cheat code is usually seen as more "unnatural".

Metroid reuses map data sections in order to save space on the cartridge. All they did was load up a new color palette, leading you to believe it's a whole new area. Kraid's Hideout is a good example of reused map data as well. Kid Icarus used similar tricks with their dungeons.

That's the whole point of a tool-assisted run. To show a game pushed to its absolute limits. It shows how quickly a player could theoretically reach the end by any means ('theoretically', because a human player wouldn't be able to pull off an entire run, glitches and all, with such perfect frame-precision, reaction times and/or luck where random events are involved).

I don't know if it would be appropriate, it would have to be its own video. As for my maps, they're here: imgur.com/gallery/OYa9l It's supposed to show all the "secret worlds", if you could call them that, from Metroid. The idea is, I've never seen maps of these "areas" even though they've been analyzed for years. So I decided to make my own maps. The thing is though, I spent a while making these, and nobody has seen them.

Metroid has some very WEIRD map format quirks. Like, background objects aren't defined on a static level grid - instead there's a game-wide list of background objects and a room is just defined as a list of objects and enemies and placement data for them. Or how no room actually defines if it's horizontal or vertical - the game just assumes when you enter a room that it will be the opposite type of the last one.

No; this is a tool assisted speedrun. The non-TAS speedruns rely on people's hands, and the slightest mistake can cost them. TAS, however, allows for the absolute best hypothetical speedruns (which are still technically possible without the tools).

@KidAran Are you implying that the players that do tool-assisted speedruns aren't great players ? The amount of deep knowledge of the game, time and skill required to do them is tremendous. It often takes them dozen thousands of re-records and generally months if not years for some runs. TAS is a marevelous thing, but it doesn't remove credit from non-TAS runs, so stop removing credit from TAS ones thanks
