Metroid Dread Any% Speedrun in

After speedrunning the game for the past week, the record has gone down a lot, what's been found to cut down so many minutes?
Route changes such as getting Diffusion Beam normally before Early Grapple and Bombs, since backtracking to them wasn't faster. There's a route change in the middle of the run where we can get Ice Missile before Spin Boost. Gameplay has been getting better, Speed Booster and Shine Spark strats are implemented more.

The first weeks are usually when the most progress is made. So those early impressive times of around 2 hours will be cut down to 1 to 1,5 hours pretty quickly. The game has very common lengthy loading times, so they'd have to break the game quite a bit to get a run to less than 1 hour. They'd have to minimize the time spent transitioning between areas since it takes like 40 seconds of loading and animation to transition. I feel like over half an hour was spent in loading times and unskippable cutscenes in the slightly less than 2 hour run I saw a few days ago.

The devs should patch in two new modes: 1.Being something more difficult than hard mode for completionists. And 2.Being a speed mode where the opening lore doesn't take place (even though that's intentional punishment for resetting imo), Adam conversations don't occur and all cutscenes are auto skipped. This has probably been said before.

I always suggest that you finish the game before diving into videos and other stuff on the internet as part of the fascination is to learn and experience things by yourself. Try to find every collectible, play the game and enjoy as much as you can… this things aren’t even cheap so you must make the most out of it. That’s what I do at least. When you think you’ve experienced enough, then go for spoilers and strategies.

Hey man, great run! Quick tip! You probably already know this but, the reason wide beam boxes are missing sometimes is because you are moving. If you aren’t moving *perfectly* to the side, the angle will be a little off. Consider stopping momentarily for consistency :D You’re awesome!

keyword "kind of". It's easy to find where to go next if you think a little bit about what just happened and what item you aquired, but the path is not linear.

@@miguelangelsanchezpla3181 really, at every point in the game, you need to go to the closest thing where you can use your new item (usually less than 3 rooms away) or make your way to the closest transporter or teleporter and follow the only open path from there

@@clydefrosch Well you can do that Or you can also take the long way around to gather items in a more casual run. The game's surprisingly open as to how you can go from point A to point B, some teleporters I never used in my first run

@@cirme9460 of course you don't need to take the shortcut most of the time, but generally, 3 rooms over from your last key item or key event, there's a transport bringing you there quickly

I grew up on Metroid and super Metroid, I bought a switch just to play this, I enjoyed my fist playthrough at 17 hours and got my 100%, watching this was insanely entertaining and awesome, amazing run!

Somebody will get sub-1:30 today or tomorrow, I think. Watching this, it's crazy how much room there still is, even with your current route. So much bad luck on EMMIs and a few mechanical errors that cost minutes in total. This is a great moment for the any% of Metroid Dread because it's already close to 1:30 and yet new WRs are still being created via routing improvements, not mechanical execution! If the routing doesn't change somebody will get a ~1:32 (like you predicted) purely via execution. But as soon as one or two new tricks are discovered sub-1:30 is happening. EDIT: So when did it officially happen? Sunday? Who got it first? It's Monday now, WR seems to be 1:27, and runners are talking about going sub-1:25.

I reckon that sub 1:30 could be done by pure execution, a bit of EMMI luck and less errors plus using "all the currently known tricks". He didn't charge the charge beam in quicktime event Corpius battle and tiny things like that, it adds up quickly.

idk anything about Dread speedrunning yet, but I'm curious as to just how you managed to get a time higher in the game than when counted IRL... How is that possible? How does it work? The time shown at the end of the game is somehow higher than what actually took to beat the game.

I believe it's because the in game time counts the cutscenes as if you didn't skip them. I might be wrong though, I just heard that somewhere.

You'll get to the other side where you can shoot it out shortly after you beat the boss for this area. The way the runner blows it up is by using a tricky bug that lets his shots sorta act like the wave beam upgrade.

Fun fact, by using the wave beam glitch the second time, you can fight the first boss early and recieve the phantom cloak, this always means you can skip the first masked emmi encounter, and due to not recieveing that cutscene, the game doesnt spawn the emmi.

Not sure if you've started doing this but I've noticed that you can kill the small creatures at 41:03 with the diffusion beam so you won't have to tank a hit. Just charge it up and the auto blast when you go into morph ball will take care of them

He’s probably holding the pro controller like a arcade stick with his right hand. Index on the fire button, so he just mash it really fast. Samus can shoot as fast as you mash it.

Rebinding switch buttons to allow for faster shots, I have d-pad left and right bound to fire so I can just quickly alternate them if I wanna shoot a target while stationary

There's a bug where you can clip shots through walls. Not easy, but it cuts down on some major backtracking.
