I know Bloodstained Ritual of The Night (Same dev as some of the Metroidvania Castlevanias, I believe. Including SoTN) has a built in randomizer. Though apparently it has some issues in regards to logic. Apparently a seed can just be impossible due to some mistakes. I havn't done one in that game myself though (Still playing through Bloodstained). But yeah, it would be pretty sick.

Dread would probably be the best Metroid in the series if the EMMIs could go anywhere on the map. I'm absolutely baffled that no Megaman or Metroid (or even Soulslike game) has had the balls to do that. The constant, bowel-clenching fear of knowing you might actually have to run and hide from something powerful outside of a single scripted scene is of phenomenal allure to me.

​@@pegasus567 Fusion got it almost right with the Samus clone appearing when you didn't expect it. There's nothing that says the game can't be approachable and tense at the same time. Let's not act like kids aren't playing stupid shit like Five Nights at Freddy's and Choo Choo Charles and such. But I would also suggest that the EMMIs being able to be found anywhere, and being able to chase the player until the player actually escapes, makes a lot more sense in Dread than any other Metroid (although, again, Fusion would have been sick if the SaX could have been anywhere).

Man I always have so many issues with Ryujinx. Yuzu is the way to go, if for no other reason than it has async shader compute. Helps immensely with micro-stuttering.

I don't know much about speedrunning Metroid Fusion, but I do remember it more than I did Prime to be honest as a kid. People say it's straightforward or more so than other Metroid games, but in my opinion if that were the case that is a positive. It was on the Gameboy Advanced when it first came out and I leaned more into that game than even Pokemon. Pokemon is such a grind. Which I suppose Fusion could be too, but I felt like you know what you are doing if you already completed the game, so if you took your Gameboy with you anywhere, the game was so easy to jump into and to a degree just mindlessly play it.

My theory is that they originally intended you to be able to use the powerbombs you get before getting the main powerbomb from the emmi, but then they decided not to, but forgot to take out the powerbombs and powerbomb blocks over by the wave emmi.

Answer to 1:17:37 - I think it's to let people go for full map completion, since the CU access closes behind you the first time you go through. I've actually used it once when I was BKed in a multiworld and filled out the parts of the map I could access.

Does anyone know how hard is this to set up? Is it played on a hacked switch or with an emulator? I sometimes play oot, alttp and sm randos, but I think setting up this one is very different lol

The Randovania site says modded switch, Atmosphere firmware, mod manager, ROM dump. The ROM dump requires Ryujinx emulator, which needs prod.keys from your Switch. This requires Lockpick RCM (Nintendo tried to DMCA this but there appears to be multiple sources). So... do your research and try at your own risk? ADVICE: If you might end up doing this avoid updating your game, since it requires specific versions to run it, and rolling back updates tends to be difficult if not impossible.

Wouldn't be surprised if the creators of the game already implemented all the different combos since during release they were encouraging people to break the game sequence hence the kraid special kill

It's actually using the regular beams with some clever hacks. you can change beam damage and the "width" of wide beam, so each beam gives you the damage, and plasma/wave without wide uses all three "wave beam" shots on top of each other with 1/3 the damage each. the main thing plasma has over wave logically is opening plasma door covers, so we only "activate" them if plasma is in the player's inventory. pretty much the only thing we haven't solved is that wave pierces enemies, but that would require decompiling a lot more of the game than we have done so far.

I wish Dread had better background music like SM, and overall it's just too busy w/all the automatic video scenes...yes the graphics are cool, but it just doesn't feel special when you grab an item anymore, the chozo don't exist...i'm just not as much of a fan of dread as SM, that's all. They could make the next one better....

You don't necessarily need the base game to be non-linear for a randomizer to work well, just to have robust ability-gating mechanics that chokepoint the level design. I haven't played Dread randomizer but Fusion randomizer works extremely well even though the vanilla campaign is even more linear than Dread.
