I remember when I was in elementary school, the neighbor kid would come over (he was one grade lower than me) in the morning and play nintendo before the bus. Well, Super Mario Bros. 3 came out, and he was better than me at it, so I got up one morning about three o'clock one morning (on a school day) and started playing, about an hour later my dad came downstairs and said "what are you doing?" so I just looked at him and in all seriousness said "Playing Mario 3, I've gotta get good before Jon comes over." Honestly, this is probably my favorite Metroid game. I know that's probably some crime against the holy Super Metroid empire, but the charm this game has is too much for me.

TonyVS I know, right? While the Space Jump is particularly tricky in Metroid 2, it's not very different from its behavior in the games that came later. Just jump shortly after the peak of your last jump. It's not that hard! I was surprised at how much trouble he was having with it. He practically never even used it! That all being said, I feel my frustration at watching made just made it that much more entertaining.

+Cameron Moore Yeah, space jumping and spider balling mid-air would elevate most of their problems. You can also do an extra jump while flashing after being hit, i remember using this trick all the time.

I can't remember how but there's some trick on the queen metroid where if you shoot her as she lunges at you, she'll freeze long enough for you to turn into a ball, roll through her mouth up her throat and drop bombs in her belly for big damage.

However, I would recommend them do Resident Evil 4, it's a good balance of the classic Resident Evil's survival horror and the action-oriented gameplay of later Resident Evil titles, thus making it less frustrating to finish.

I went to my fathers house for a family reunion. Turns out they saved ALL of my old toys. And kept all original packaging. Among the awesomeness was metroid, metroid 2 and super metroid, ZELDA, ZELDA 2, LINK TO THE PAST, LINKS AWAKENING, SECRET OF MANA, LUFIA, CHRONOTRIGGER. FF1,2,3, SUPERSCOPE SIX, METALCOMBAT, EVERY MARIO GAME EVER MADE FOR NES AND SNES AND GAMEBOY. all in their boxes. OH YEAH....AND MY VIRTUALBOY. Thank god I'm not a broke bitch anymore. For real...they got all my turtles...the technodrome...my proton pack that had the foam noodle...like a million micromachines...Lego sets. SUPERSOAKER 10-50-100-250. Even my red Ryder bb gun. I had no idea. I have zero intention on ever selling any of it. I mean...that's my childhood all in a couple boxes in the attic. And the best part is....my dad refuses to let me take it all. two tips on the queen metriod battle, you can hide just under the ridge under the queen, just dont do down there or you will leave the battle. The most important tip is when you missile the mouth and the head stops you turn into a ball and roll up the neck i think you can go in the belly cant remember you lay some bombs and it kills the boss really quickly without having to use loads of missles.

Using missiles on the Queen Metroid is actually the hard way. It's designed to be beaten by morph ball bombs. It takes a lot more damage from those.

@@WavemasterAshi There are: 1) The small opening at the bottom where you have to escape to when your energy is low, 2) the mouth opening of the queen exactly the right size to eat the ball, 3) the stomach, weak point of all metroids, not reachable via beam/missiles, and 4) the morph ball being a very prominent item in this game (with two unique upgrades: spider ball and jump ball).

Man, maybe I'm misremembering my childhood experience but I don't recall having THAT much trouble with the queen metroid. Also gameplay aside, the leadup to the fight with her(?) is actually pretty amazing, stylistically. And a lot is thanks to the music. Both the "mystery" music when fighting the newborn metroids, and the heavy and intense "warning" klaxon noise in the final hallway. Transitioning from that to the final boss music is perfect. Possibly one of the most foreboding moments in a game boy game. It still gives me goosebumps.

I've found the omega metroids to be easier to kill than the zetas. They have these moments when they just hover, which is the best time to attack. And their charge is easily countered with the screw attack. Like I said before, you guys really need to practice with the space jump. And the spring ball, apparently.

You can use the spring ball to jump, and then press down to attach to a wall. It allows you to go to so many places that otherwise would be impossible in Super Metroid. I love the spider ball. You can also press down if you get blown off a wall to re-attach, as long as you're close enough.

Metroid II is underrated. Most people put it near, or at the very bottom of their list of favorite to least favorite Metroid games...but it's my fourth favorite behind Super Metroid, Metroid, and Metroid Zero Mission.

I remember that I had this game the day it came out. I used to bring my gameboy & this game everywhere. No guide, no magazines, no maps, I would always stand as close to the right wall as I could and if I remember, I think the screw attack pushes MQueens mouth away, I never did the bomb trick... didn't know about it :)

I remember Space Jumping a lot of those areas you used the spider ball. It takes some practice but it would have cut out quite a bit of the tedium of spider balling up the wall. Sometimes I see these old games that I could beat when I was younger and can't believe I could do it. I think I beat this when I was 12 (1991) using the same Nintendo power!! Thanks guys!!!

Your main problem at the final boss was that you had trouble with the screw attack, so you took a lot of unnecessary damage from those small creatures. The damage from the boss itself is definitely tankable if you keep spamming missiles in her face. I swear I had 0 issues with the screw attack last time I played it (at the boss I mean; there's definitely issues with it when you try to fly high up in the air).

Exactly, you can literally just screw attack to the right on the wall and it will repel the spiked enemies. No idea why they had so much trouble with it (And the space jump)

That game overgrowth gets a lot of criticism for being in development for pretty much the same amount of time, i think 4 people are working on that game and here it's 1. the guy said "I hope 2016 will be a year with awesome Metroid game releases. I'm pretty sure AM2R will be one of them." please get released this year, or at least next year..

i can finish this game blindfolded with one hand meanwhile i play ninja gaiden with the other one. it takes about 30 min to 100% both games, GIT GUD BRO! GIT GUD!

There's no save point near the final boss, but there is an escape tunnel if you realize you're going to lose the battle. It deposits you back into the large cavern, and you can spider ball roll to the recharge room, then make another attempt.

James and Mike never found out that you can activate the spiderball in midair during spring ball jumps. They never had to go around these massive areas.

+Stiv64 Yeah but last year we got a lot of content. Board James took center stage and was phenomenal. James & Mike Mondays continues to deliver, Monster Madness takes months of planning and work, etc.. We got that amazing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde trailer. If we take into consideration everything else they are doing, it's not hard to see why the episodes have slowed down. These past two Mondays, for example, was an all-day event for them. They compressed it for us, of course, but this literally took 10 hours of their time. Throw in the convention visits, personal life, etc., and yeah, it's a lot to keep up with!

Loved this game as a kid and expected to hate it going back to it, but STILL love it. I think it's the atmosphere as much as anything, in places the closest thing to pure dread on the Gameboy.

when I had this game as a kid. I got to a point where I beat it at around 1hr & 45 min. If you beat it in less than 3hr you get to see zero suit Samsung at the end.
